My biggest take away from the trade (and signing of Fehr, they are hand-in-hand) is the fact the bottom 6 has an identity. I've said this a few times on here, to mixed reviews, but to me this is HUGE. Granted I'm not a huge analytics guy, but did play the game and understand the X's and O's along with the importance of SOME intangibles like chemistry (not to be confused with grit). When I think of a line of Duper - Bonino - Fehr means a fast, skilled type attack and dogged forecheck accompanied with defensive responsibility. When I think of a line of Downie - Sutter - Spaling I think of 3 monkeys (frank)ing a football during a prison riot in the chow hall. Just my 2 cents.
If Sutter was a defensive/FO specialist.... great. Put him w/ 2 similar style wingers and they will excel at something. If he were the physical, pest type do the same. Skilled, finesse type, again, put him with comparable wings. But in reality he's had all these linemate "types" and has never exceled, or even raised his game with any. To me that was were my dislike came from.
Lastly, the Metro, I believe, is an Eastern division comparable to the Pacific in terms of size. From what I've seen of Bonino he can play "bigger" and match up against the Thorntons, Getzlafs, Perrys. Looking forward to him doing the same against the Kreiders, Simmonds, etc... - stowerkraut
So what you are saying is you have never seen Bonino play
guy can't keep up with Tanner Glass. Good hands and deceptive shot.... nothing else.... You guys say Sutter is soft.... but he skates much faster and had 3 times the hits Bonino had. I am no where near enamored with Sutter, especially at 4 million plus..... but he is an Upgrade on Bonino if you ignore cap issues. |

I didn't realize Clendening was still on a two way contract, which is awesome. We won't risk waivers on him this season. Erixon is not though, so what are the chances he is sent down compared to a Scuderi move? - usethe1-2-2
Clendening has to clear waivers to be sent down..... He stays with the big club or is subject to waivers.

If he starts in ahl, then only has to clear waivers if he gets called up.. he is behind 2 guys for 7th Dman

Solid point. We're just tired of Sutter. Adding a D prospect and jumping a round in the draft is a win for us.

Well (frank) me - rambling on with HB 'facts' again. That makes a lot more sense, no one made that point the other day! Well now he can be seen as Harro's replacement - my apologies Gunner. - Aussiepenguin
He is on a 2 way.... but he is is waiver eligible which is part of the reason Chicago dealt him.

1. Sutter's numbers are worse by a substantial margin compared to Bonino's.
2. Ignoring cap issues is a pointless argument. Every team is subjected to the cap so every player must be evaluated based on their cost-effectiveness. |

It depends on his age and games played. If he starts in the AHL, he won't have to clear waivers. Only if he comes up to the NHL and then goes back down. |

Doesn't work that way...We had to sneak Markstrom down last yr. |

You might not like it, but one of Dupuis or Kunitz will likely be in the top 6 until one of the other options prove they can be capable in that role. - jfkst1
Not like that is a bad thing... Fehr also could take a wing spot up there, if not, make the 3rd line even more deadly.
We have a load of options this year... yes, only 2 KNOWN top 6 wingers right now, and about 5 or 6 top 9 wingers that we need to gauge in the preason. |

The draft pic is obviously a win for you guys.... didn't get the need to throw that in. Clendening I could care less, except that JB gave up young D man (forsling) to get him, that had potential. I am not sure he will see a game in a pens uniform, he may be trade bait or may just get lost on waivers. I do not see him making your team. |

In the NHL, each player signs what is, or is a variation of, a standard NHL player's contract. The contract specifies that the team has exclusive rights to the player playing in the NHL. Once an NHL player has played in a certain number of games or a set number of seasons has passed since the signing of his first NHL contract, that player must be offered to all of the other NHL teams before he can be assigned to a minor league affiliate |

No, just factor in his age, injuries and the other guys we have, he should not see top 6...
Also, I had to put down both my dogs within the last month - nh4442
So sorry man, that's a bummer. |

Good to know. My hope is that the "scenery" thing has Clendening directed towards the right direction.
What is the feel in Vancouver? Is everyone up in arms or is there confidence?

One-way v. Two-way Contracts
The rules above are the complete rules for determining whether a player has to pass through Regular Waivers. There is a widely-held misconception that whether the player has a one or two-way contract has an effect on waiver status. The only thing a one-way or a two-way contract signifies is what the player is paid. A player on a two-way contract is paid one salary in the NHL and a lesser salary in the AHL. A player on a one-way contract is paid the same whether he is playing in the NHL or AHL.
A player's AHL salary determined whether a player was eligible for re-entry waivers, but with those a thing of the past, the type of contract has absolutely no bearing on the NHL waiver process, no matter how it works in EA Sport's NHL series of video games. |

Most people don't like it..... mostly the contract. But most aren't freaking out
