I'm not surprised. I never had an issue with Gerbe. He goes out every game and busts his ass. It's just that some fans don't appreciate the role players the same way that others do.
A Stanley Cup winning team isn't comprised of all superstars. You need to have the guys that are willing to take a beating each game and continue to move forward even when things seem impossible. That's the kind of guy Gerbe is. The fact that he does actually have a bit of skill to go along with his tenacity is a bonus.
He's never going to get you a ton of points each year, but he's not getting you killed out there either. I'm glad he's been able to find some success since they cut him loose here. - HonkFortheGoose

That's exactly it. I've always liked him. Obviously he has something to prove, and any comparisons to St. Louis is ridiculous, but the kid has skill to go along with his work ethic, as you said. Nothing wrong with a guy like that on your third line, or even a skilled 4th line. It was being put with the crap that the Sabres had for a 4th line that made him look pretty worthless.
My memory is not so good to remember that part of it, but it was definitely a nickname I picked up from the boards (and know it was definitely not my own creation). - stashu
I think I caught a lot of flack for that...those boards are all gone, I believe

I don't see how a 3rd line was a " Problem" he was making nothing
idk it still makes me mad - gerbe75pts
I'm pretty sure they did it as a favor to him. It was said that was the purpose of it after it was done. They didn't feel he was part of the future here, so they let him go in order to move on to a different team. He's seen some top line minutes in Carolina, so it's not like he's doing any worse for himself there.
He'll always be a guy I root for. Well, other than when we're playing against him.
