With the introduction of the hard salary cap in 2005, the days of the NY Rangers, Toronto Maple Leafs, Philadelphia Flyers and other big-market teams eschewing the draft and loading up on expensive free agents to rectify weaknesses in their system is gone. - Michael Pachla
And thank God for it. It stopped them from winning every Stanley Cup and allowed for teams like Tampa Day, New Jersey, Colorado, and Dallas to be competitive. |

So who's the starter for this poop QB's
Me: they trade for one before the first game .. - gerbe75pts
no team is going to trade a starting QB. Buffalo is going with Taylor, Cassel or Manuel. |

It wasn't actually a question that was asked. Someone said they'd take a team of all allstars over a team of heart.
And neither one of those formulas win the Cup. You need a combination of both. Sometimes you get lucky and your all stars also have heart (see Duncan Keith and Jonathan Toews). - HonkFortheGoose
I'll take the hapless team of all stars over the mighty mites any day. If I'm here, and the coach says you either get Team Canada's best or 23 Matt Ellis' (God help me if he reads this) ... well.. I think we know the answer to that one. |

nash is a frequent all star player, pommer is not - homiedclown
You would win more games with a team full of Nashes than you would a team full of Pomminvilles. |

I said I don't want either team. I want one that has both. And again, if you're really lucky, you have some guys that fit both categories. |

The problem is that a team full of Pomminvilles doesn't get you past the regular season. |

So it's either a team full of playoff losers, a team of playoff outliers or being a fan of the Chicago Blackhawks. Guess I'm a Hawks fan. |

Pominville .76 PPG
Nash .80 PPG
Both are sound defensively.
Nash is obviously more dynamic, and just plain better. But not by a large margin |

He's definitely worth more. But Pominville IMO has quietly been a very under rated player his whole career. He's had multiple 30+ goal seasons and is an excellent 2 way player.
Vanek and Miller received all the attention when he was better than both a lot of the time |

Agreed. I thought the same . Pommer would never be in the spotlight, but before you knew it. He had 30 goals. |

It was in that two year window where Pominville was "struggling" statistically. Vanek was the NHL's leading goal scorer till his injury and the following year Miller had his Vezina run.
I remember the term Pomminfail becoming quite popular. Felt like he was missing a lot of good scoring chances.

I've always liked Pominville. Been a favorite of mine for a long time now. I was sad to see him go, but I knew it needed to happen so I dealt with it.
I never had any complaints about his game because even when he wasn't scoring he was still effective out there.
I'm not as into advanced stats as many others, but I kind of wonder over their careers who gets more offensive zone starts. Nash of Pominville? Anyone care to look it up?? |

This past season, Nash had a 54% off zone start
Pominville had a 63% off zone start

Nash historically has had far more defensive zone starts (percentage wise anyways) than Pominville. |

They've got nash at 45% and Pominville at 53 - Sabresfan-365
The numbers are fairly close either way you look at it I guess. Thanks to both of you for looking for me though. |
