Jesus, that guys seems to have been around forever. - mdw7413
Think his year with the Rangers he led the team in times getting Sam excited by driving to the net, then crashing into the side of it, while at best getting off a no-chance backhander. |

Unless that defense improves I still don't think Pittsburgh is going to better than the Rangers or Islanders. - MidnightMarauder
I still can't believe the Penguins traded Simon Despres for Ben Lovejoy
That is such a ridiculously bad trade it's not even funny |

Find that rumor hard to believe, since I believe the age of consent in NY is either 16-17, he would have had to slept with a 15-16 yr old.
If it is true, he should be locked up for a very long time. |

NY is 17 but federal law is 18 and federal law always trumps state law. |

Age of conent is 17, unless you're over 21, than it's stat rape.
Edit: Meaning it's ok legal wise dating a 17yo if you are under 21. Kane is not. |

Actually that's not true, the federal law only applies if you cross state lines. |

I thought the 4 year age difference was under 17. Meaning once you are 17 you can consent to any adult.
Where the hell is PeteV , isnt he a lawyer? |

Don't know if you're right. That's why the DEA carries out raids in Cali even though weed is legal in state law.
Edit: The law that applies to situations where state and federal laws disagree is called the supremacy clause, which is part of article VI of the Constitution. The supremacy clause contains what's known as the doctrine of pre-emption, which says that the federal government wins in the case of conflicting legislation. Basically, if a federal and state law contradict, then when you're in the state you can follow the state law, but the feds can decide to stop you. When there is a conflict between a state law and federal law, it is the federal law that prevails.

If Federal law trumped state law all the time you would have the Feds investigating every crime. I'm sure there are certain circumstances where it might be true, but most of the time it has to be a crime across state lines.
Hence there would be no need for local state laws, and we would have a federal government that controlled everything. |
