I'm sure he lives right in the thick of it all. Crime rate is a stupid reason to use, unless a city is so crime riddled it's falling apart and descending into chaos. - ehabs9

have you ever been to toronto.....pretty much every murder that happens in canada is in toronto.
why would he ever leave tampa?
if it's about money......the leafs as a team are richer than the lightning, but individually the leafs would have to pay him 30-40% more than the lightning are offering for him to breakeven
if he wants to win a championship.......that's a no brainer
if he wants to be the star.....he's already that in tampa
why on earth would he want to play for a worse team, for less money, and 1000 times more pressure? - sensarmy_11
Less money? If that were even remotely true he would of been signed on July 1st for max money.
Maybe he wants to play for the team he grew up idolizing?
Maybe he wants to be closer to his friends and family?
Maybe he wants to play for arguably the best coach in the league?
Maybe he's taken notice to how crazy this city is going for the Jays and wants to be part of something similar for the Leafs?
Maybe he just wants to play for a city where people actually care about hockey?

Will Toronto Media and their fan base let them after 2 seasons? Chances are no. They will do something cray cray soon - DDM-Coga

its more guys like Simmons and Cox who will start spewing garbage articles around then how "the Leafs are wasting good years" of their prospects by not being competitive now
they are the worst |

I think, finally, with Shanny running the show, Cox, Simmons, Feschuk et al, are becoming more and more ostracised.
It's becoming apparent no one in the media has the inside scoop on what they are planning. This changed with Shanny's arrival. |

I would disagree with that, look at what Simmons did to Kessel in his final months there. He won't change, and the bigger media voices in that city will still take a poop on some paper and call it Leafs National coverage.
Uncoachable, hot dog carts, all the other garbage they wrote. Shanny was still there while they did it |

I think the one error everyone can be excused on is affect/effect. Because really, who the hell can remember which one to use. |

I think he is saying they no longer have "insider" access.
But you can't really stop them from writing poop.
Shanny finally convinced the fans that proper rebuild is a good idea. |

Oh yeah. Simmons will never stop being Simmons. I think he pissed a lot of people off with that made up Kessel story.
Either way. I think the fans can stomach a long long rebuild. I mean what else do we have. Shortcuts haven't worked for decades now.

Makes no sense to trade for a guy you could get without giving up any assets. Let him hit free agency and sign him to 10 million X10 years or whatever the max deal is. if the lightning sign him for that cash so be it.
I would assume he gets 10-11 million per season on his next deal. considering towes and Kane are making 10.5 he's right up there with them. Hasn't won the cup yet but he's been to a finals and conference finals game 7. |

Ottawa has been the murder capital of Canada 8 times since 1981. Toronto hasn't been on that list one time since the same time frame.

Seriously? Murder rate in Toronto is higher than Canada average. Cool - Kucherovski
Toronto has one of the lowest murder rates in North America compared to our population. Get over it, Stamkos wants to play in the safest big city in North America. |

Money will NOT be an issue if Stammer wants to play in Toronto.........the money he would make in endorsements in Toronto/Canada would double his salary, and easily make up for any tax difference.
That said I would not trade for him! Keep on our path, a trade would be too expensive. If the Leafs and Stammer want to get together, next summer is the time. |

I understand the logic in waiting until he is a FA. But do you think Tampa Bay even let's that happen? He either gets dealt or a deal is reached. I can't see nor would I want to be the GM who let's one of the league's best scorers go for nothing. |

pretty sure its one of the safest citys in Canada, go look at the stats
In 2013, Toronto was the city with the overall lowest crime rate. It recorded 3366.35 violations per 100,000 people. The rate fell 7.1 per cent from 2012 and 25.1 from five years ago. The Big Smoke was also named safest city in 2012.
I couldnt be bothered to look up 2014-15 but I doubt it did a complete 180 and drastically changed
couple hundred murders in a city of like 3 mill? go look at a same size city in the states...say Houston or Chicago - poohcrumbs
A couple hundred murders??. Are you on crack?
Toronto murder rate
2010 63
2011 51
2012 56
2013 57
2014 57
2015 32 so far this year

Imo leafs only target stamkos if he goes to free agency.
Can't see them paying the price it's going to take to get him. And for whatever reason if stamkos does want to be a leaf, and Tampa doesn't want to lose him for nothing it's going to be a tough call to trade him or keep him for a playoff run.

Yes...and Steve going to FA...It's all but done ...Why would a team trade for him knowing he's a rental until July 1 when he signs with the Leafs...
