Only thing which made sense in this post.

Only way Stamkos comes to Leafs is that he just waits out the season (most certainly with Tampa) and then signs 1st of July with Leafs as an UFA.

- MaximusAurelius

No idea what is going on right now with Stamkos, I think that is the scary part of it. He said all the right things in the media but he is too smart a person and has too smart of people around him to not say the right things. Would he give up Tampa to play closer to home for the team he grew up loving is all it comes down to. Tampa has no state income tax, he can go out to eat at some great restaurants without being bothered, I think he lives on a golf course and he can golf during the season. 75 - 80 during hockey season or freezing cold near friends and family. I would say it is more likely he signs in Tampa for $10-$11m per year and buys a house for his family to spend the winters in Tampa, solves that close to family problem. Now does he want to put on the Leafs sweater all that bad, really only a few people probably know and it is none of us, or Ek.

If, and I highly doubt it, then Lightning actually want to trade Stamkos to the Leafs, Toronto will potentially destroy what they have been building the last couple of years in exchange for a run at the Cup in the immediate future.

Any trade would be hypothetical, so I will give it my best.

============
To the Leafs:
============
S. Stamkos
A. Sustrj
B. Point
2016 3rd Round Pick

===============
To the Lightning:
===============
T. Bozak
M. Reilly
S. Percy
M. Marner
2016 1st Round Pick
2017 1st Round Pick

Basically, the trade-offs are Stamkos for Bozak, Marner, & two 1st Round Picks; and Sustrj & Point for Reilly, Percy, & a 2016 3rd Round Pick. I'm not sure this trade makes complete sense, but it is a potentially equal in terms of the rrade-offs. The biggest obstacles are Tampa Bay losing their best player and Toronto sacrificing their future. Keep in mind that the loss of two first round picks (2016 & 2017) is not horrible for Toronto, considering they currently have 11 picks in 2016 (2-1st's, 2nd, 2-3rd's, 4th, 2-5th's, 2-6th's, 7th) and 6 in 2017 (all but the 3rd round pick).

- monsmaark[Note: Four of Toronto's picks in 2016 & 2017 are conditional and could change.]

Any thoughts on this purely hypothetical trade which I believe will never happen?

NO..

Just Sign him when he hits FA..

There are actually some idiot hockey players who chose to play for the lowly Islanders for all the bad years. Don't you just worry, they will screw it up real bad in a couple of years and will be the dregs of the NHL again.

Seriously a Leafs fan mocking the Isles lack of success.....difference between Isles and Leaf fans is we can admit when we are sh1t....Leaf fans are winning the cup every season in your minds. And like EK they are going after every possible ''big name'' each off season.

Stamkos to Toronto is now at least plausible and for certain under Shanny and Lou's consideration.... ( so its plausible Stamkos anywhere could happen -unless you are a Leaf fans) and (certain that every GM would have it under consideration)

The bigger question might be "Do the Leafs have enough to make it happen?[ (lol...this is something every team would be asking if they could pull off)

This is pure Leaf gold, of course you all think it will now happen.....

i like how the 2 OHL guys who have proven nothing and the 73 year old who was booted out of NJ constitute a management dream team.

Why are all leafs fans assuming he hits FA - if im tampa there's no way i'm letting him hit FA and if he's getting traded you have to assume they'd negotiate a contract extension.

Not saying its impossible that he gets to free agency but that certainly seems like a long shot.

Of course - but you'd think that before giving up a ton of assets a team would want to be sure he'll sign an extension.

Unless its strictly for a playoff push but i would think thats a worst case scenario for tampa (well second worst...worst is if he walks for nothing)

If he has no interest in staying/signing in TB than chances are he already has a team in mind..It's not like he would be looking at testing the FA waters as he's gonna get top dollar either way(Can get more yrs from TB) so it wont be about money...
It could be a tough situation for TB if they trading him as a rental as return could hurt..Something they most certainly should be looking at now, sign or trade him now so the return could be max as a team would be getting him for a full season even if he's gonna walk next summer..

I see no reason for the Leafs to give up any assets to acquire Stamkos before he becomes UFA. If he wants to play here he will

Simple fact:

If Stamkos really wants to be a Leafs in 2016 and beyond, nobody nor any trade can prevent that.

Leafs have 0 need to trade for Stamkos.

what is the 30-40% more talk all about? Are you suggesting that income tax in Florida is 0%?
- Allan Bester

I'm not an accountant but... Yes, this is true... Florida is one of 7 states that has no personal state income tax. The US Federal tax for those making over $413,000 is at 39.6%

I believe that Canada's Fed & Provincial Tax is around 49.5%

That's a big 10% difference or a savings of more than $1 Million per year on his next deal which should be in that 10-11 Million range..
