well, if sutter got 4M you can bet stamkos will be asking for 11M

who cares.......i never understood why fans are so defensive of their teams money........the expendable cap is there for a reason to spend it on a team, we have nobody right now, i would give the guy 15 if he wanted it. Again its not your money so who gives a (frank) as long as they can get a team together under the cap who cares how they do it, and it is one of the best players in the league

Why the f u c k would stamkos ever sign with the leafs, let's face the facts they ain't winning a cup for at least 7 years and playoffs in 4-5 .

i love how everybody just ignores the fact that in december half way through the season we were one of the best teams in the league........we hit a rough patch lost a bunch of games in a row lost our spot at the top and the team gave up.........we didnt have a bad team our team just stopped playing. Its like people saying kessel has no heart, he has tons of heart thats why he gives up, he wants to win so bad that he cant deal with the stress of losing n then he turns into a baby, when the leafs were in the playoffs he was one the hardest working players on the team

Stamkos for Marner, JVR and Reilly.
- Iloveeveryone

his contract is done at the end of this season, we won't be making any crazy trades like that.......nobody in the league will cuz they for one its an expiring contract and two cuz as every day passes it gets more likely that he doesnt want to stay in tampa, teams will wait out his contract and get into bidding wars over him as a free agent

I guarantee Stamkos will not be playing for Toronto in the future.

If I'm wrong (which I won't be) feel free to call me a moron. At that point, I'll be too happy to care.

have you ever been to toronto.....pretty much every murder that happens in canada is in toronto.

why would he ever leave tampa?

if it's about money......the leafs as a team are richer than the lightning, but individually the leafs would have to pay him 30-40% more than the lightning are offering for him to breakeven

if he wants to win a championship.......that's a no brainer

if he wants to be the star.....he's already that in tampa

why on earth would he want to play for a worse team, for less money, and 1000 times more pressure?

- sensarmy_11

wouldnt you want to play for the team you grew up cheering for, wouldnt you want to be involved in the best team the leafs have had since 67, maybe the fish bowl doesnt bother him, i know hes in tampa but hes still a superstar that talks to the media every game, time is ticking on his career, everybody wants a cup but i dont see tampa there again this year. why would he get less money? the team is obviously moving forward, where tampa is gonna implode next season

Leafs dont need Stamkos now. They need to build a solid foundation through the draft and focus on player development. Although he's a better player, Stamkos would be like trading for Kessel - ie. trying to buy wins when your team is in rebuilding mode.

Don't make the same mistake twice (or is that four times).

...on second thought, please make the same mistake twice.

Will Toronto Media and their fan base let them after 2 seasons? Chances are no. They will do something cray cray soon
- DDM-Coga

the fans dont have a voice, its the stupid media that starts all these headlines that nobody even agrees with, eventually they say the same poop so much that people start to regurgitate it, i cant stand fans who get their info from tsn or sportsnet, then you watch the game and realize they are full of poop just tryin to get a hot topic headline

Leafs are in line to have perhaps the WORST team they've iced since 67. And the few years after that aren't going to be much better. Tampa is a hundred zillion million miles closer to a Cup then the Leafs will be for the rest of this decade.

\instead of just spewing out the bullpoop that the media says over and over actually watch the game, kessel doesnt play defence, that doesnt equal to no heart, look at the guy when he misses a shot hes pissed the (frank) off, that doesnt seem like a guy with no heart, hes just a big baby. But when we were playing boston kessel was in the corners, he was backchecking every play, and he was even shoving people around, hes just the type of guy that wont risk injury in the middle of the season when your in 15th place, watch him in pitts this year he will back up everything i said, top five player in the league this season

one draft can propel us to a bubble team again.....i get it last is better then 9th, but if its done right we can have stamkos explain we dont care about winning this year, draft well and we will be competitive, in the next year or two after that i would trade the rest of the assets that built up over last 3 years and bam were competing for a cup..................a big reason toronto sucks is cuz players are scared to play here, im hoping shanahan babcock and lou make players give us a second thought, if so we can actually get some free agents. Also look at ufa's at the end of this upcoming season, they will not all get signed, if we have the cap and players r willing we get put a sick team together in one off season

So Kessel gave up on the team, the jersey and the fans because he has TOO MUCH heart. That's a new one. Have you ever said this publically before?

his value is so much lower then you have him at, his contract ends at end of season, if hes tryin the market his value goes down, if hes told toronto he wants to play for them his value shoots through the floor

have you ever played hockey on a bad team, especially being one of the better players on the team, its extremely frustrating when your teammates suck, for me personally i feel the emotion but im a mature hockey player, i stop myself from being a baby about it, most goal scorers (their best skill) are like this, when things go south they give up on their team cuz they feel like they are the only one doing anything.......stamkos is not like this at all, patrick kane ovechkin and kessel are like this. the point is kessel will be a bad player on a bad team, and a steller player on a good team, as a coach your supposed to make it work with what you got, instead of trying to force a whiny goal scorer to be a 200 foot toews type player, it just doesnt work. Notice ovechkin got better this year cuz trotz lets him wheel around and do his thing?

So would he be an average player on an average team? If that's the case, then the Leafs offering him that big contract was probably the stupidest move in the history of sports. With an attitude like that, he's not worth $8, let alone $8 million. Surprised they didn't see that at all.

- Iloveeveryone

Actually that was the reason why the Avs didnt try to sign him after a very impressive showing (or as old stories go) He was too messed up on coke and Sakic didnt want that in the locker room

i understand hockey is a team sport and the entire team effort makes you win. But 8 dollars? for a guy that is forth overall in goal scoring over the last 5 years, 8th for points to those who say he doesnt pass. and his plus/minus is -72.

You can look at that how you want, he either sucks defensively which he does no argument with that, or hes one of the best offensive players on such a poopty team that he racked up a -72....................go look at the rest of the leafs players over the same five years, they all have horrible plus/minus, which speaks to how bad the team is, which supports my assertion of kessel being a very valuable player

his contract was a better move then dions contract

this year he has a decent goalie, on the decline but way better then reimer and bernier, not sure about pitss overall d but it cant be much worse then torontos, our two best d reailly and gardiner dont even kno where the defensive zone is, they should both be moved to forward

o ya keith yandle is the only player in the league that has played more games then kessel in five season. so the bad is that he doesnt go into corners, the good he doesnt get injured
