He very well could, because he's making about $2.5mm less. - Jsaquella
That's my point, if Gudas shows well in camp. Luke should be moved

I don't know why people have this idea that one has anything to do with the other in terms of Luke Schenn and Radko Gudas. By this logic, I guess Samuel Morin will never see a call up until they are both traded and the last three seasons of Grossmann and Schenn never happened.
I think this team could surprise and might be fun to watch. We automatically got tougher now that we have Wayne Simmonds, Ryan White, Luke Schenn and Radko Gudas in the line up for a full season. We become less reckless with Zac Rinaldo out. |

I think a lot of people dismissed Gudas, but looking at the numbers, he was a pretty solid contributor to a 100+ point Lightning team in 2013-14 and didn't play poorly last season before the injuries.
Biggest concern with him is disciplined play. He likes to hit. A lot. That's not bad, but it can also leads to positioning issues and blown coverages. The other concern is Gudas takes a lot of obstruction penalties.
Despite those rough edges, Gudas should be able to be a cheap, effective player for the Flyers. - Jsaquella
I'm looking forward to seeing him play but all these points can easily hurt a team at anytime.

Strictly speaking, that is true, but Radko Gudas is not known for his good nature out on the ice. I'm worried about him staying out of the box if he skates a regular shift. And I say that as someone that would be just fine with moving on from Luke Schenn. You can say alot of things about Luke Schenn, but I'm pretty sure "taking undisciplined penalties" isn't one of those things. |

I really don't see Manning sticking with the Flyers to start the season. Too much of a log jam of players who are above him on the depth chart for what he brings. I could see the roster looking like this:
Raffl - G - Jake
Schenn - Couts - Read
Gagner - Laughton - Simmonds
Umberger - Bellemare - White
VDV, Lecavalier
Streit - Schultz
MDZ - MacDonald
Medvedev - Gudas
Schenn
Mason

That's a good point. Gudas led the league in interference penalties (I believe) 2 years ago. Which could be a good thing, or at least not as bad of a thing, as getting beat for an odd-man, which can be a knock on Luke. They play a similar style of game and are both right-handed. Gudas is younger and much cheaper but, based on VERY limited viewing, is slow even compared to Schenn. Schenn can actually play like a top-4 shutdown player at times, he's just wildly inconsistent. Gudas, to me, is a 6/7 player right now.
Also, I like to make crazy wild predictions about the young defensemen on the Flyers based on my limited viewing. I saw Morin play the at WJC and therefore he will never be anything more than a bottom-pair ogre who's slow and has no offensive game. |

Luke is what he is.. A 5/6 Dman. He is inconsistent. Great against Rangers in playoffs, but not so great last year. At 3.6M for a 5/6 man. IMO that is too pricey |

I'm going to keep an open mind as much as possible concerning Gudas, and see how he plays in a Flyers uniform. That being said, I lean towards a similar first impression as you've made. I think those thinking that Gudas is going to be an upgrade over Schenn, and that Gudas is very good with the puck, are going to be disappointed. |

3 on 3 OT should help make this season more fun than last season which featured 11 shootout losses by the Flyers. I think 3 on 3 OT could add an extra 5 points to Giroux and Voracek's totals. |

Last year the Flyers had 26 games that were tired at the end of regulation. They went 8-18 overall, and 3-11 in the shootout, so in games decided in OT they were 5-7. Of those 5 OT goals, G and Jake had two, and BSchenn had one. |

I don't see no reason why schenn and gudas cant be in the same lineup at all. think it is way off base to say the coach won't want both of them. if they earn it they will both play. |

Agreed.
Also, it's not like Schenn is horrible with the puck. Sure he could get better with it, but when he keeps it simple and he's on his game, he actually has an underrated first pass.

I agree completely. I don't see the need to compare the two. My top 4 would be Schultz and Streit, MacDonald and Schenn. |

Well if we are to take hakstol at his word which is he expects a lot out of his dmen to make plays to key offense then I could definetly see him staying and either of luke or gudas starting with the phantoms. I could see them carrying 8 dmen also

I would assume most people would put Streit w/ Jake and G, but I wouldn't because he can be a 3rd forward. I would them w/ Medvedev (assuming he comes in and plays well). Then I would put Read w/ Streit and Del Zotto. Defensively responsible forward w/ speed with two offensive D-men. Not sure what I would do w/ the 3rd line.... Gagner, Couts and ???
Jake - G - Med
Read - Del - Streit
Gagner, Couts - ??
Honestly, I'm not really sure, just spitballing. It's difficult to decide without seeing how everyone is playing.

Medvedev is the wild card. How is he going to adjust to the NA game. Which Schenn is going to show up, at his best, he's passable as a #4, when he's inconsistent, which is often, better suited to the 3rd pair. |

Manning is most likely, going to be sent down to the Phantoms, barring injury. Doesn't make much sense to me to carry 8 defenseman this season. |

So I was out drinking with an old Buddy from high school on saturday and hes set to be Notre dame's captain next season (supposedly). Anyways he never entered any NHL entry drafts but he's talked to 3 teams this summer about some type of free agent "try out" contract for next summer. LA, nsh, and philly are the 3 teams he's actually talked to. Just thought it was (frank)ing cool that philly was talking to him. |
