they love that shiny new toy - homiedclown
They're not children. Don't have to love all these players equally. One is clearly better than the other, that's not a knock on reinhart. And it's certainly a far cry from "he stinks" |

People need to temper their expectations. He's 18 years old. He'll turn 19 shortly after the start of the season. Just watching the World's should be enough to tell you he'll be able to make a difference, but it's going to take some time and it's not going to happen every game.
That said, if Bylsma can get him against favorable defensive matchups, that should help a lot too. - HonkFortheGoose
Having O'Reilly now should help with that, but I'd like to see him takes some tough matchups as well. Just to see him get used to playing a two way game. |

Let's not forget he will not be the only addition to the team from last season, and he won't have to be a savior all unto himself. In addition to Eichel, we'll also see Reinhart, ROR and EKane. I think the team is going to be WAY more dynamic, and there won't be a "honeymoon phase" with any individual player. - Der Kaiser
There's always a honeymoon phase for an individual and the team itself, that's just how it works.
Let's not forget all those additions were forwards. Doesn't matter how dynamic those forwards are if the D can't make a good a first pass, or is constantly chasing the puck in his own end.

Not drawing an analogy. Just pointing out what most of us already know but for whatever reason refuse to acknowledge. If and when he brings in a d-man or two i'll change my tune, but my expectations don't hinge on phone calls we think murray is making (for all i know dudes on vacation).

Hypothetical phone calls+Gorges and Bogosian in top 4 ≠ good team. |

Pysyk should help with this quite a bit. I'm not sure if his skating is his best quality or if it's his first pass. |

Probably, tall order though. I wonder how many minutes they give him. |

It'll be interesting to see. His skating ability will allow him to be able to to play big minutes. Plus he's not generally a puck chaser. He's good at reading the play and knowing where to be.
That said, he's still young and will make mistakes. I think he'll be on the second pair, so I would probably guess somewhere around 18 mins a night. |

Based upon what we know about GMTM's management style (as opposed to Darcy's) and Pegula's ownership style (as opposed to Gallysanow's), there is no reason to suspect that the phone calls are hypothetical.
Also, my belief is that after three years of abject mediocrity and 2 years of "suffering," the definition of a "good team" to this fan base will be a relatively low hurdle to get over.
So, to bring it all the way back to the original point that you made, with which I disagree, even if the Sabres spend the entire year with Gorges and Bogosian in the top 4, this fan base will not give up on the season after the first 60 days and look forward to next year's draft as the sole remaining point of interest.

I can't make a decision about that until I know that both are going to be on the opening night roster. |

Not from what i've seen. Plenty of people last year thought this team would be outside the bottom 5. Lot's of playoff talk going around as well.
And when the team reaches a place in the standings where the gap in points between us and 8th place is insurmountable (which i admit may take longer than 60 days) they will absolutely look forward to the high pick in the draft they're hosting. Doesn't mean they won't stop watching, lots of individuals to keep an eye on, but as far as season goals go, what else would you focus on?
