The NHL allowed the Kings cap relief with the Voynov situation. They might do the same with Kane's situation at least until it is resolved. I would absolutely love to see the Blackhawks destroyed with Kane's dead money. - jfkst1
Did they get relief? I cant remember.
All I know is I cant wait for the Hawks fans to defend Toews superiority when they dont make the playoffs next year. |

Originally they didn't and had to play with only 5 dmen because they couldn't afford to bring anyone up. Then Lombardi went to Bettman about it and got cap relief.
I would love to see a reversal of fortunes with Chicago and have everything go wrong for them this season. It's starting off pretty negatively for them this offseason. |

I understand that the "all-in" year probably skews our overall view, but again, look at what he was giving up picks and prospects for....Doug Murray, Iginla, Kovalev, Morrow, Vokoun, Poni Express, Stempniak, etc. Mostly old ass players who were here just a few months! - YouMeAndDupuis9
Kovalev cost a 7th rounder. Vokoun a 7th rounder. Poni was Caputi and Marty Skoula. Stempniak was a 3rd rounder.
So like I said, the only year Shero really bet the farm was the Iggy/Morrow/Murray year, and we were all praising those trades (Shero is God?!?) when they went down. Morrow was the Gary Roberts/Bill Guerin vet winger who was going to show the boys how to win. Murray was the physical crease-clearer fans were clamoring for. And then they went big and stole Iginla from the Bruins.
I don't think a single member of this board criticized those moves at that time.

Ray Shero's biggest mistake was when he tied himself to Dan Bylsma. In reading a lot on this board and around other NHL forums there is a lot of talk that Buffalo with Bylsma is all of a sudden going to be a powerhouse, whereas New Jersey is not going to improve at all. I am going the other way and say New Jersey will be a better franchise than Buffalo next year and in the next five years.
Shero is a decent GM and should learn from the mistakes he made here, case in point he already drafted a forward in the first round. I think Bylsma is too arrogant to progress as a leader. |

I agree with that statement, but New Jersey has a loooooong road ahead. If Ray doesn't improve his drafting Jersey will go nowhere.
Buffalo certainly has a nice head start. It will be interesting to see if Disco was humbled by getting canned. I can't stand him, but no way will Jersey be a better franchise in the near future. Jersey will be fighting for the #1 pick. |

MLB, NFL and NHL networks is leading to the demise of ESPN. Not to mention they delve into WAY too much political correctness and social issues. I would imagine most people watch sports to take their minds off of all the crap going on in the world.

I haven't watched that joke of a network since I was 15 and I'm 22 now. I think when they chose that science project for the Arthur Ashe award they lost A LOT more future and current viewers.

....Which is my point that Shero didn't always trade picks/prospects. - Blackstrom2
Not denying that and I will admit that when he did trades player for player it was very good (most of the time). But when he did trade picks and prospects that's where it went to hell and that's what mortgage our future and why we are ranked so low in term of prospect strengths.
Rutherford has at least got some players with term and at good value for our young prospects and future picks, that's the difference. He also was good in players trade (minus Lovejoy-Despres). Cole for Bortuzzo + 7th pick is ok, Goc-Lapierre is OK, Neal-Hornqvist+Spaling was good. |

I thought Caputi went for Hoss and dupes?
But you are correct we liked that he brought Morrow to fill in the 3rd line grinder role.. but not at the expense of joey morrow, murray was the D we needed but not for 2 2nd rd picks, and iggy was great but we thought hed play with sid...
I know a couple of guys who were with me complaining about what we gave up but those were the types of guys we needed...not Sheros fault DB didnt use some guys correctly....

Yeah... The Morrow/Morrow deal was awful. Even if Joe Morrow was falling out of favor, Brendan Morrow was a shell of his former self that year. I scouted him from my couch and could tell he wasn't good anymore. Terrible deal and I complained loudly at the time. Same with the Murray deal. The guy was getting scratched and Shero gives up 2 2nds for him. It was insane and everybody here said it was insane!
We needed those types of players, but not those players.
I loved the Iggy deal. I never imagined our coach would try to turn a HOF'r RW into a LW. Iggy should have punched Disco in the brain to knock some sense into his arrogant ass. |

I remember when the Morrow and Murray trades happened most fans on ESPN boards were ridiculing Shero for paying such high prices for depth players. Iginla and Jokinen were good deals that were poorly executed by Bylsma's personnel decisions.

The key to a huge prospect pool is to sign your depth player positions in the off season, so you do not have to buy players on the deadline to fill holes or enhance chances of playoff success. JR has done that remarkably just now. |

I dont think that was the point. This is all stemming from someone saying Shero and Rutherford mortgaged the future in the same way, which I think is false for the reasons outlined.

JR working this lead like the Kessel one? lol...or maybe we wait until hes bought out and we give him the Alex Semin $1.1M contract.
In seriousness, even if guilty of such a horrific thing, Mike Vick came back, so Kane will be gainfully employed as long as the league allows. - YouMeAndDupuis9
Vick, Kobe, Lewis.....unfortunately someone will play them somewhere. I wish pro sports had a rule where if you were a convicted felon you were banned for life. How many of us could walk back in the door even after an allegation and in most cases get a raise? |

I use to love College Gameday, but thats a joke now. They def bring politics into sports discussions which is amazing. Most of their employees aren't former athletes or educated in politics. Just journalists. If NBC sports was managed better, I think they could challenge them. |

LOL several years ago in my Beer league we had a guy female doging about how Caputi wasn't getting a chance and he was a top 6 player. I asked why he thought so highly of him and he said something like "well he stayed on the ice with Sid and they look great a few weeks ago" BB syndrome. |

even as a defender of shero I criticized the Murray deal. one 2nd rounder would have been overkill. |

people tend to forget shero also turned a 5th rounder into a third rounder in the morrow deal. that evened out that deal in mine mind |
