I'm late but what a fantastic read. Reading about Bill's childhood was very similar to reading a page torn from my own life. Same peanut butter, same drinking glass, same wooden stick with the blazing orange plastic blade and arguments with my friends over who would be Clarkie & who would be "stuck" being Bill Barber or Reggie Leach

Bobby Clarke was a deity. He was one of the most talented players in NHL history and was hands down the best player on his team just about every season he was on a roster, yet he put out a nightly effort like a 4th liner trying to keep his job. He was a rare example of talent and heart in one package. As Fred Shero aptly said, he was a dream in work clothes.

Thanks, Bill

im a bit younger my friends would argue over being tocchet, eklund or zezel, i always won because i was either beast, poulan or hextall

Hot take right here: much has been made of Hakstol making a difficult jump from collegiate hockey to the NHL. But will going from the NCAA to Snider's youth hockey camp and then to the NHL make an already difficult jump that much tougher?

Really though, cool on him. I'm still eager and excited to see him go to work. I hope the day for the kiddos involved more smiles than death stares!

The snider kids are a bunch of punks. My brother has played them about 4 times now and each time it's been disgusting.

Death stares galore I guess. Hakstol don't tolerate no punks

[quote=wolfhounds]Don't know if any of you care, but the trailer for Tarantino's The Hateful Eight is out. Pretty sure it's gonna be badass. And there was a bit of drama surrounding it - somebody leaked the script and Tarantino got all bent, said he wasn't going to make it, but here it is.

is this a reference to the flyers D?

Guys. Guys. No need to beat a dead horse -- Grossmann isn't even on the team anymore.

Also, would anyone take Bruce Dern over AMac?

Fantastic performance in a great Alexander Payne movie, and he'll be starring in the Hateful Eight. I meant on our defense though. Would Bruce Dern be an upgrade over AMac? To be fair to AMac he is also a great actor -- his performance as "solid top 4 d man, only slightly overpaid" has been one for the ages.

Especially big guys and defensemen.... Morin's a both of those things, so 3 probably sounds about right.
- Tomahawk

I agree. The reality is Morin will be playing against bigger, stronger players even in the AHL. Men, not the boys he played against in the Q. So his biggest asset will be marginalized a little bit.

In a perfect world they could bring up Ghost later in the year, preferably after a trade, and as Jsaq says, shelter him a bit to bring him along.

Then next year try to bring up either Provorov or Sanheim, and then maybe the following year or two Morin and the remaining rook.

At some point they're going to have to live or die with the rookies, but we need to let them grow a bit first.

Dunno, if this was Paul Holmgren and the Flyers, I might be inclined to think they rushed into the decision and missed some fine print.

Dean Lombardi, tho? Guy was a labor lawyer for christsake. You gotta figure he at least knows to dot those I's and cross those T's.

It was worth a shot if the worst thing that happens is that Richards contract gets reinstated.

Speaking of the Blues, I've been long enamored with Magnus Paarjarvi but he just totally hasn't put it together. The Blues resigned him to keep his rights. But would anyone take a Flyer, pun intended, on him for a 4th or 5th round pick. He's got the skills on paper, and could be a great addition on the LW if he ever put it together.

Maybe could turn out to be a Ville Leino 2.0.

Thoughts?

EDIT: And yes, I realize that he was waived last year and the Flyers, and everyone else, passed. But that was in-season.

Assuming Manning stays on the Flyers, there will be five prospects in the AHL with a realistic chance of being promoted when there are injuries or trades. I'm fine with whichever one has been playing the best getting called up. It's a much better situation than last year.

Yes indeed, especially when you consider that their 2 best D prospects aren't even old enough to play in the AHL!

That's one way to look at it. There's other ways to look at it, if it's overturned. That's also if you think such issues mean anything.
