Not going full retard, but look at the guys that wear the C now and in years past. Lead by example. If q guy can't go out there when the game is on the line and produce...or lay a big hit...or stand up for a teammate and fight when necessary. ..or just have that charisma as a captain...then he shouldn't be given the C. Zajac would never compare to guys like Backes, Toews, Steve Y, or even Dustin Brown. It would be a waste of the C. Keep him wearing the A.

Interesting that shutting down a team's top line is not listed

You said don't go full retard..I just listed some of the reasons I think he doesn't deserve it. But if you can name me a captain that solely just shut down other teams top guys and did nothing...then Zajac can have it.

Other than big hits you listed all offensive things that a captain should posses, and assume that if he doesn't he must not work hard.

Never said he doesn't work hard. I listed some qualities I think a captain should have. And listed captains that have been deserving of the C. I'll name another one...that we all hate...and did us dirty. Messier...scored when it counted (game 6 for starters) laid a hit when needed and had the charisma and balls to be a Captain and played his balls off for that team. Zajac doesn't do that for me personally. But if shut down forward is good enough then so be it.

Henrique doesn't come close either.

The way some devils fans talk about Henrique you'd think he was Mike Richards back when he was good.

As you know, we are a little short on heros and players to be excited about so everyone is perceived with a little more hopeful optimism than if they were on a team deep with forwards.

At the same time, I can't wait to see how players like Henrique, JJ and even Zajac play under Hynes here. These guys could really break out not having to dedicate so much time and focus on backchecking and two way play.

Of course with the projected roster we will probably be doing a lot of backchecking and puck chasing this year, no matter how great the system is!

Last off season some people, including bloggers and reports, were speculating if he could hit 100 pts soon.

Absolutely ridiculous

Well the time dedicated to backchecking and two way play is really determined by how much you have the puck. And regardless its still important for players to be good without the puck. Chicago and Tampa combined for almost 6 goals per game yet the finals had a little less than 4 per game.

Jesus. We really need Pujujarvi or Matthews so we have someone decent to talk about.

Interesting factoid I just read here:

You all might already know this, but Paul Thompson, RW on Albany, who put up 33 goals and 22 assists for 55 points last year, played under Hynes for 4 years in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. As short as we at RW we might see this guy.

I completely agree, I am a Devils fan after all, I think we all highly revere two way play. I just am trying to be optimistic.

Well, scoring a series clinching goal against the Rags in overtime to send the team to the Cup Final might have something to do with it. But I think this past season definitely disillusioned people about what kind of player he is. That's a serviceable second liner who's best work is on the pk. He's probably one of the best pk forwards in the league, but 5 on 5... well he doesn't shoot, he's solid defensively but nothing special, he's a great forechecker but he doesn't have good hands, he's an average passer, his vision/playmaking leaves a lot to be desired, and he doesn't drive the play.

Give it to Larsson and watch the heads explode.

Had we of drafted Brendan Lemieux we would have our future captain.

The captain position is basically for show. I don't care who they give it to.

Zajac only sucks because the team has and he hasn't had a good enough supporting cast but Henrique sucks just because he sucks. Henrique is more important to this team and especially going forward. How effect is Zajac going to be when we start playing to win instead of playing not to lose. Crazy that we can pull every damn excuse we can think of to defend Zajac but when talking about Rico we don't take anything into account. It's laughable that some think the only thing Henrique has done is score a clutch goal in his rookie season, HE HAS BEEN ONE OF THE TEAMS BEST AND MOST RELIABLE FOR THE PAST TWO YEARS. To the guy who said he lacks vision and his passing leaves a lot to be desired !? Seriously who the (frank) are you watching or what the hell are you talking about when you speak of vision and passing ? He is one of the only players on the team who can create offence and isn't out with the teams beat wingers like some other guys . The team has not been good lately but Henrique isn't a reason why.

If he made 3 mil you wouldn't even bat an eye at his play.
