That would be my D to start the season. Donovan and Ruhwedel will be the call ups during the season and they'll get their opportunities because we know Gorges and Carlo and probably Bogo will sustain injuries throughout the season.
Or they could consider offering PTO's to a d man but unlikely I would say. - mhp
They may keep Donovan or Ruhwedel up just so they can give McCabe more time in Rochester. PTO may not be a bad option either, a lefty would certainly have a chance at earning an NHL spot.

I hope so, hard to predict with the CDN dollar. It just worries me because so many great teams have seen seasons go to waste because of awful cap management. - Sabresfan-365
Hopefully Murray doesn't make the same mistakes that Darcy did (Ehrhoff, Hodgson, Leino) and manages things better.
If you look ahead 3 years to 17-18 we have only ROR, Kane, Moulson, Eichel and Ennis as the only forwards signed with Foligno and Girgs as RFA's. We have Bogo, Gorges signed and Risto, Pysyk, McCabe and Donovan as RFA's. It doesn't seem like we're in bad shape.

I hope his experience working for the penny pinching sens helps him there. It looks good now, but they've still got holes that need to be addressed.

Donovan could be an interesting signing.
There's a few guys they could invite on PTO's- Brewer, Allen, Hejda, Schlemko. Or they could offer Ehrhoff a PTO
What's with Volchenkov? Is he done? Only reason I mention him is because Murray knows him from Ottawa.

I don't buy into the he's tough to play against defensively because he hits a lot.
I would've had gionta on that list a year ago but he seems to be having an impact on and off the ice, can't hurt to keep him around with Eichel and Reinhart coming through, kane as well. - Sabresfan-365
I think on a deep playoff run (BIG assumption is his health) he will have a huge impact. I think he's gonna play big in big games.
Brandon Sutter 4.3 mil - Laughable contract
Carl Hagelin 4 mil - steal
One had 33 points, the other had 35

I agree but not on the specific comparison between hagelin and sutter.
Hagelin is being paid to be a speedy two way winger whose numbers they believe will go up playing with i assume one of kesler or getzlaf.
Sutter on the other hand is being paid to be a good two way centre, problem there is he isn't.
Gorges
Bogosian
Ristolainen
Pysyk
Weber
And 2 of the recent signings or McCabe will make up the 6 and backup spot.
Many will be skeptical, but this defence will be tough to play against, especially with forward support and more offensive zone time.
Buffalo is making the playoffs. Many will be surprised.
The East has a weak bottom. Would not surprise anybody, too much, if Buffalo makes the playoffs. But I do think they're hard pressed. I think you overrate the defense based on some potential. - Tangled
Our defense does not look good on paper, tbh. Or during the game.

Pretty much. But it's also the role each guy will play on the team. Hennings sees Sutter as a "core foundational piece" to be on the second line, while Hagelin is a guy with actual second line possession and points numbers (these are points per 60 minutes numbers and not simply total points which is what makes Sutter look decent). Sutter has 3rd line or below points/60 numbers
