he's definitely not on the same level as larkin but he will likely still be a good top 6 fwd. he'll show he's a step above virtanen in a year or 2 max.

I remember people on this board were so down on Horvat the year he didn't make this team.

Virtanen is going to be the beast of a power forward this team has been clamouring for since Bertuzzi.

Without a doubt. What I don't get is that I heard very early on from a couple friends in the loop that Lou and his wife hated it in VAN. I mean H A T E D it there. You would think that mgt would be more in tune with everything and recognize that tying a guy down to a big contract who in his heart doesn't want to be there... Is a mistake.

If it was really that bad in Vancouver, why not test free agency? Talk about first world problems.

Just asking for problems if you commit yourself to where you don't want to be. The biggest joke of that whole business I thought was when he cried and said his contract sucked. I can't identify with that.

He was making enough money, salary was greater than cap hit too, that she could spa and shop every day of the week.

I dont doubt that his wife wanted to be close to her family but she also decided to move here later. Lou I believe did enjoy it here. His heart was obviously here, thats for sure. He played like a guy whose heart was here and that wouldnt be the case if he hated it here. He loved the fans and was pumped by it. He didnt have that before or since.

i guess we see them much differently. horvat i think can be a kesler-lite, won't have the same offensive upside but should be similar defensively. 2nd line C at best.

Virtanen will end up as a 3rd liner at best, maybe he'll be able to fill in on the 2nd line if he has good linemates. wouldnt surprise to see vancouver's next gm trade virtanen for a similar young player that needs a change of scenery.

boeser is the guy i think has 1st line upside, but is more of a risk than virtanen to be a solid NHLer.

I think Virtanen can be a consistent 25-30 goal guy with 150+ hits and 100+ pims. He has the physical tools to be a first line winger, he just needs to develop his game a bit. Playing with vets like the Sedins will set him up for a great career by hopefully bestowing him with the right mindset and work ethic.

As good as Boeser is, he is nowhere near Virtanen in certain facets of the game. Virtanen is a better skater, has more of a physical edge, is stronger, and arguably has the better in stride shot. In fact, I can't think of a single area of the game that Boeser is better than Virtanen in.

It'll all come down to development. If Vancouver can develop Virtanen properly, he'll warrant his pick.

I would have bet anything that you would have given a generous ceiling for both horvat and virtanen. Guess it's a good thing I didn't bet..

i think most people, even nucks fans here agree horvat is a 2nd liner at best. almost zero chance he becomes a 1st line C. i don't even think i've seen a nuck homer saying horvat is going to turn into a #1C lol

virtanen i can understand the disagreement, he does have 1st line "upside" but i dont see it happening. if he can crack 50 points in 3 years that would exceed my expectations.

Theres always that potential. He did better than anyone expected him to do even the staff, fans, scouts.

sedins also got comments like that too but look.....and henrik would never score more than 10 goals a season.....then he wins the scoring title.

It's impossible to know anything for sure.

3rd liner at best? You base this on what exactly? You post no rational reason for this. Must be on negative biased view?

Remember JV only slipped in the draft standing because of his surgery, otherwise he was around top 6 in the draft.

btw you do realize that Van and ottawa both won cups before right? They were amongst the 1st cup winners in history. so like most everything you post here even your screen name isnt based on any fact what so ever. Maybe you should change that tendency.

I don't think we can make a fair guess at bo horvats ceiling based on his rookie year on the 4th line. Projections need to be taken with a grain of salt as we know with all the first round busts this organization and others have seen. To write off horvat as a 1c based on his rookie campaign on the 4th line is a bit of a joke. I am not going to say I think he will be, but I certainly won't write off the idea that he could be.

This individual has a deep hatred for the canucks and their fans, not sure what his exalted team has achieved to give him this sense of entitlement, (maybe because they won the cup when there was only 5 other teams in competition).

But he is noticeably still being derogatory against the team, but is disguising his posts so he doesn't receive another ban.

Now i could be wrong in my assessment, but I'm betting I'm not.

Same thing ive said before. Im wondering if its possible to ban this clown from this forum. He can bark about his own lame team in his own teams forums.

Maybe there should be a troll section for people to vent in without disturbing decent people here.

Makita you ever notice those who do stuff like him are fans of teams that suck super bad? Like theyre bottom of nhl and yet telling other teams they suck.

He's a very affable guy. Remember this is what I had heard early on. Perhaps he grew to love it and then things worked out like they did. In any case when your wife is not happy it makes life difficult and stressful. It's very hard to take a girl from Florida and try to be happy in Van. Two very different cities, climate, cultures etc.

I live in California, but miss home very much. I don't do well in heat. I imagine the inverse is the same for people from warmer climates.

As for why not test free agency-- Gullzy nailed it. Front loaded contract. Pretty hard to say no to that kind of money. You take it and run. At the end of the day it all worked out for him didn't it? Let's not go feeling sorry for the guy.

CS absolutely should have been showcased and shipped. One day Canucks fans will learn that it's better to sell high than sell low. One day. I can only hope.

Just to clairify if anyone starts reading this without having read the earlier posts, Carol is not going anywhere. Unless she wants to leave, she is staying put.

Couldn't feel sorry for Lu. Getting paid to play a sport? Can't be that bad. Spouse doesn't like the city, you are only around half the time anyway with the travel. They can live wherever they want. First world problems.
