Sbisa will be better without Bieksa and I feel bad with whoever gets paired with KB in ANA. - Nucker101
Old ketchup face won't put up with Bieksa costing them games when something is on the line thats for sure.

Good news for KB in ANA is that ANA actually has a decent amount of forwards that can clear the defensive zone multiple ways...will make Bieksa look much better than he is...technically. - LordHumungous
Clearly our strategy against the Ducks any night will be to put as much pressure on Bieksa with the puck in his own zone as we can. He forgets others are on the ice to help him anytime someone bears down on him... curl back, curl back, curl back then rush into the oppositions corner with the puck taking a poor angle shot and then slowly skate back to his zone too late on the counter rush that he created.... this will be fun I think.

Edler plays so many tough minutes for this club and people want to get rid of him, I don't know why? At 5 million for a top four guy he's a good deal. Sure he makes mistakes, who doesn't, it's hard to be perfect out there for cryin out loud.
He'll never be what I'd hoped for but he still a damn good defenseman!! |

Playoff performance is invisible . In a head to head battle last year in the playoffs , Engelland was much better and had more impact than Edler at half the cost.
A couple of times I seen on Edlers and Tanev expression " Did anyone get the number of that truck that just smoked me?".
I am too lazy to look up how many playoff points Edler has in the last three years but I personally would take a big tough kid that would battle and make teams pay for entering in front of the net.
Like I say over and over , Canucks have a very good regular season team. Playoffs not so much |

Canucks fans get too attached to players and decide to move them when they have little or no value. We are not winning now so getting value and younger is probably a good idea. |

Invisible?? Your perception of the position is flawed in my opinion. Edler averaged 24 minutes a game in the playoffs last year (most on the team for "D") and he was plus 3; his primary responsibility is to defend. Because he skates so well he's always paired against the oppositions best forwards.
He was also our leading scorer for dmen in the regular season and the playoffs, with only three points, which doesn't say much about our defense, but that's not his fault. |

I guess it goes back to the old adage, they're not trying to lose, they're trying to win and compete still. Not to mention Edler has a FULL NTC, which he's clearly stated he has no intention of waiving. Forcing him to waive only decreases his value (he picks the teams he's willing to go to) and the return would be disappointing. |

Real decent reg season Dman but soft soft soft player that has PO performance issues. We need to start thinking beyond the reg season and how to actually 'compete' in the PO's if that is the intention. |

You see, there's where our perception is different I guess. Edler isn't a "soft" player. He takes punishment to make plays and he still gives it out now and again, plus, him and Tanev were our best defenseman in the playoffs. |

like I said he is a very good regular season player. Games have little importance , and when other teams are playing for games that don't matter he is an all star. When teams are battling and brawling in the playoffs I seldom notice him.
Me personally I wouldn't have him on my team. Just my opinion. Doesn't mean a thing in the overall picture. Benning likes him that's all that matters |

I agree. It was pointed out a few years back by a coach that players who play huge minutes have more noticeable mistakes. Theres always a mistake % for each player. So the more minutes a guy plays the more mistakes there'll be. That was a coach defending a player to the fans. Its simple mathmatical logic.
Im thinking that player might have been brent sopel.....although it may have been bieksa too. Long time back. Someone playing huge minutes back then. |

Again I guess we just see it differently, no he's not a brawler, but over his career he's been a good playoff performer. Is he flashy offensively like Nick Lidstrom or Ray Bourque, no, but he's turned into a good defender and takes less chances offensively now.
Over his career he's played 65 playoff games and has 31 points, those are very decent numbers for a defenseman. He's also a career plus player in the playoffs. |

It's actually just the opposite. Here on HB it is trade everyone. In the real world they start petitions for back up goalies and third line players like Higgins. Townhall meetings to explain why they fired the usherette who stands at gate 300. It is ridiculous how everyone protects a player for a team that has done nothing in 4 years.
Fans were clamouring about the Clendenning trade for Christ sakes. Who the ef is he? |

His game has gone down a notch and when they finally decide to trade him in his final year I don't think they would get anything near what they could get now |

I look at every move they made this year including Kassian and fans and media are ready to put Benning on a stake and roast him.
Kassians best year here he had 14 goals 15 assists yet this year you would have thought we just traded Gretzky |

Offensively yes, he doesn't put up 40 point seasons any more. But defensively, I think he's now a better player than he used to be. Their defensive depth is so poor trading him at this point would be a bad idea given they're trying to compete. Also, as I mentioned, I don't believe he wants to get traded...which makes it very difficult to move him.
