Le Québec est assez riche pour être un pays
« Le Québec joue d’ores et déjà un rôle majeur dans le monde sur les plans de la culture, de l’innovation technologique ou du commerce. Si le Québec était un pays, son activité économique (son PIB par habitant) le placerait au 27e rang sur les 235 pays du monde, juste après la Grande-Bretagne (26e) et devant la Nouvelle-Zélande (28e), le Danemark (31e) et la Finlande (36e), et il se classerait au 19e rang des pays les plus avancés économiquement, membres de l’Organisation de coopération et de développement économiques (OCDE).
Alors que certains ne cessent de répéter que le Québec a une économie trop faible, que les finances publiques sont dans un état désastreux et que nous sommes trop pauvres, ces chiffres ont le mérite de remettre les choses en perspective. Je n’ai entendu personne ni ici ni ailleurs remettre en question la capacité de la Grande-Bretagne d’être un pays autonome, elle qui est pourtant classée 26e au monde, juste devant le Québec. J’espère que les dénigreurs et les détracteurs du Québec vont cesser de nous inonder de ces arguments fallacieux. Le Québec est fort économiquement. L’économie québécoise est depuis les débuts de son histoire fortement interreliée avec celle de ses partenaires extérieurs. C’est environ 25 % de la production économique québécoise qui est exportée à l’étranger – part qui passe à environ 45 % lorsqu’on tient compte des ventes de biens et de services du Québec aux autres provinces du Canada. »
