What had Tyler Seguin done at that point in his career? Had he been a Conn Smythe winner and integral contributor to 3 Stanley Cups? No, he was a player that regressed after an outstanding rookie year and did not have the Resume Patrick Kane has - EnzoD
I wasn't comparing him to Patrick Kane. |

I wasn't making any comparison to the skill sets of Sequin and Kane.
I was making a direct comparison to the following line:
"From what I have read I think Hawk Management has had enough of his immaturity and his reluctance to use his brain and grow up."
And it fits perfectly. |

Judge and Jury Canada Cup here for his daily "Kane is likely a Rapist" contribution. Appreciated as always. - EnzoD
Shoe me once where I've suggested that. You have a very nimble mind to jump to the conclusion that my post assumed anything about Kane's guilt or innocence. |

It does in a sense of trading a "troubled star player". My point to you (not Paulr) was that while Seguin had lots of "potential", he didnt have the established and consistent NHL performance (both in the regular season and especially in the Playoffs). I understand that if Gretzky can be traded, so can Kane....I just dont think it is the most prudent course of action for sustaining this Modern Day Dynasty. |

How about a little Hockey Talk. With expansion coming up potentially by 2016/17/18, who would you see the Hawks potentially not protecting and offering up to the expansion teams? What would be some of the rules and how many players have to be available from each team?

Based on what I've heard, I would rough guess Seabrook comes in at 5 years, $6 million per - John Jaeckel
Is that us giving him Crawford's money or can the ship stay afloat with both of them getting paid that? |

I think they can be close...Keith I believe is signed through 2023.

If Seabrook signs for $6M - hallelujah! That's only $100K more than he's getting now.

I think Kane has been the "subject" from the beginning but it was also wrongly reported he was the target. - Al

I don't think that would be enough to re-sign Seabs...either more money per over the 5 year term, or a longer term...but I do think that's in the ball park.
And there's no way for the Hawks to make this deal with Seabrook and still maintain the core the way that it is...add to that in 2 years TT, Dano and Panarin are all FAs and the Hawks have NO CHOICE but to start taking steps to give themselves some Cap space.
But I am one that does NOT see this as a "bad thing" at all. Bowman and his "all star" supporting staff know what they are doing (as evidenced in the hurried deal with Saad), change is a natural and healthy thing that could see the Hawks GET BETTER and not begin a descent back towards mediocrity. This is a very special group here, good enough to keep winning without Patrick Kane if it comes to that. |

Sequin was a completely different case. Boston has shown time and time again it has no patience with younger star type players. - paulr
Not true. Claude Julien is a much better coach than Q. |

BTW, things are continuing to "heat up" with the Hawks front office...while they are still "handcuffed" until they make a decision on what to do with Kane, that hasn't prevented them from being very aggressive on the phones. As I mentioned the other day, look for the Hawks to move very quickly once they have decided what they can do with Kane! Lots of teams are in the mix, this is far from just "CAR and WPG". |

If Giordano comes in at $6.75 aav I would hope they can get Seabs to agree to somewhere in the low $6m area. That really only adds a dew hundred k to the cap. They will have a problem if Dano, TT and Panarin excel but a solid problem to have. I just hope Stan learned from the Saad situation and starts deadlining his RFAs and demanding they sign before they can see an offer sheet like Lombardi did with Toffoli and Pearson. That should allow him to maintain cost control or trade them accordingly. |

i would imagine a nice bidding war if it comes to light Kane isn't guilty, as i do think Kane has played his last game in a Blackhawks sweater. |

Well given the fact his current cap hit is $5.8m, any number in the $6-6.5m range really doesnt upset the apple cart of the core fitting into the salary cap. As I've said before, assuming the cap doesnt go DOWN next year, whatever the Hawks do this year will mostly cover them for next year as well. Steeg coming off a contract. Anisimov gets a small raise, Seabs gets a small raise, bonus hit maybe gets reduced.
The next cap crunch really occurs when Dano/Panarin/Teovo get their raises.

He stays a Chicago Blackhawk. The "Spin Doctors" are already working on the public perception sensors. He will be at camp. |
