Watching the Flyers D decisions and development the next couple seasons should be a fun and interesting thing.

18% body fat? For a hopeful professional athlete who isn't bowling or on the front line in the NFL? That's pretty bad.

I don't know Shaq turned into a HOFer in a supposedly "athletic" sport. As did Charles Barkley. They were both rather fat men.

RE: trading any veteran dmen

I'd be open to trading any of the veteran dmen, provided the deal is a good one. We can quibble over whether they will make the playoffs in 15-16, but I don't think anyone, including management, can make any kind of case that this team is a legit cup contender or even a dark horse contender. With that in mind, you need to be open to moving any veteran player.

Again, I'm not advocating moving a dman just to move a dman (unless someone is willing to take AMac and his entire remaining contract), but it doesn't hurt to listen and if the deal is a good one, you make the move.

Agreed. Well said, scotchman.

I actually agree with you. Happy days!

well lets say streit breaks his arm 1 day before the trade deadline. do you think a team will give up a first for him then?

lets also say his play falls off the map unexpectedly. he is playing badly in all facets. do yu think a team will give up a first for him?

whatever his value is today could and will more likely change in time.

18% is good for a sedentary 50 year old man. He should be ashamed of himself.

For the record, I hate the "what if" injury scenario,

If a team offers a 5th for Giroux and we say no, then he goes out and gets hit by a bus and ended up wheelchair bound...do you think we can still get a 5th?

No GM should make a deal based on possible injuries when a player on his roster has been relatively healthy the last few seasons.

- jmatchett383

Thats still a very real variable. Older d-man who plays a lot of minutes? Injuries happen pretty frequently. NOW, Im not saying make a move or dont make a move, I was just pointing out that its not a guarantee that you can get the same return now and in 5 months.

Yup, I'm sure there are cases. Those dudes are huge, and Barkley got bigger as he got older. It's just crazy that a young kid can be skating up and down the ice over and over, burning all kinds of calories, and still be chubby. How does he not break when hit?

There's a time and place where deals make the most sense. Hextall was open to trading a number of d men last TDL but he only got offers he liked for Kimmo and coburn. So 2 were traded. He had been said to be dangling more vets this off season, grossman was the only offer he liked and so he went. This season I'm sure it'll be the same. If hextall gets a deal he really likes it'll be done. If he doesn't he will hold 8 9 10 11 veterans if he needs to.

In a completely unrelated topic I see morin among others beating out manning for starting spots and not only does he get waived but he gets out on the 2nd pairing ahl unit.

18% is actually better than the national average and considered to be normal.

My point of view was made from the standpoint of a serious injury not occurring. Obviously, any serious injury, especially for an older player, will affect his trade value.

That's what I think as well. Apparently 25%+ is obese...

Okay, that was just one example.

My point was predicting whether or not a guy will be worth the same in a trade now and at the deadline is impossible. There are way too many variables. Injuries, sicknesses, cold streaks, hot streaks, bad year, great year.

A guy could be worth two firsts right now, have a horrid year and be moved at the TDL for a 3rd.

Or the opposite could happen. That was my point.

In all seriousness, 18% bmi isnt all that crazy.. Id be willing to be the teams avg. BMI is around 12%.

I'm pretty comfortable stating that I think Streit's trade value isn't going to change much by waiting until later, to trade him. I was discussing one specific player, not players in general.

Green had 45 points, but he is comparable to Striet. So there was one other option? Defenseman are at a premium. Quality available defenseman are becoming less and less each off season. I don't think the factor of other options becoming available later, should come into play when deciding to trade him now. Plus there is a flip side to that.

Exactly.. one of the problems with sports world today is the amount of science they put into things. Phil Kessel can play right? I bet his BMi is around 22%. Seriously.

I agree to an extent, but there has to be limits. I think carrying too much weight, such as with a player like Byfuglien, will eventually catch up to him as he gets older.

If the Flyers were to trade Streit, hopefully a player with PP ability comes back. Anybody know or think Medvedev could be an option on either PP unit?

Watching his highlights, he seems to have offensive ability, so I'd say yes.

Hard to say, it's obvious he has decent wheels and some skill, but until he starts to play on the smaller ice against NHL competition, there's just no way to really know what he'll contribute.
