When Rome got suspended and Hamhuis got injured then Canucks fell apart.
Ehrhoff skated away when things got rough and Rome answered for his teammates. Sometimes 4 th line monkeys are required and it is not always about skill - VANTEL
It's both that is needed. The bigger issue during the finals was that the Canucks mantra that whole season was turn the other cheek and make them pay on the powerplay. But when the PP dried up, they weren't able to adjust. |

The D will be this teams undoing this season, understandably you can't fix it overnight. |

I think the D will be one of the undoings. There are holes throughout the team.
It will get better as young players look ke Sven Grenier JV learn the game . This right now is a Swiss cheese team |

It dried up for the playoffs not just the finals. Two different styles of game. |

Like yourself I have no high expectations this season, aside from JB acquiring picks leading up to the TDL in lieu of trading them away. |

Guys in some trouble. I often wondered what the hell happened to this guy, he used to be a good two-way player and suddenly he just went downhill. Now I know why. |

Apparently anyone who thinks he did good when he first came here and finished poorly for an overall grade of "passable, but definitely not great" is a loyalist.
Booner loves spinning things just as much as he accuses others of doing the same. - Nucker101
MG made some good moves, but then he also made some bad moves and finished on a sour note.
Hiring that idiot Torts probably gives him a failing grade in the end since Torts was such a pos that he'd likely sleep in his office since he had a bed installed there and never run a single practice. |

I still say that is an Aquillini hire.
Gillis said months before her was not a fan of that style, and Aquillini was a fan of Torts style.

Not defending MG of course but pretty sure Torts was an Aquilini hire and was pushed on MG by ownership.
MG did make some good moves to help get the team into contention for 2011...after that, not so much. |

Yep. At least what we have in JB and TL is they are likable, approachable people. Trying to fix someone else's mess. |

I remember it being good right up to the finals. They absolutely destroyed San Jose with it. Didn't they get 3 PP goals in like 3 minutes? |

He was handed a contender. He emptied the cupboards trading 2nd rounder's for rentals that did nothing in the playoff's.

That contender missed the playoffs 2/3 seasons before his arrival. |

Jackson Whistles invite is interesting. His stats for last year in Kelowna were pretty incredible. They did have a stacked team mind you which played pretty well in front of him.
Don't know much about the other invitee's... |

Interesting signing for sure...I like it!! Can't understand how he wasn't drafted though? Late bloomer maybe? |

Disagree respectfully. Hamhuis, Higgins, Malholtra, Torres, Lappierre, Ehrhoff, Samuelsson and a few other added were all Gillis. Without the proper mix of talent and those players in the lineup we don't contend at that time...period.
Trading 2nds for rentals yes I agree, he effectively dismantled a good contending team in a few years trying to keep them contending with rentals.
But Gillis made some bold, sharp moves to get that 2011 team into contention...love him or hate him. |
