So did Nonis, who was actually worse at it than Gillis. - LeftCoaster
Nonis tried pretty hard to clean up the mess left by Burke but yes Nonis could have very well been worse than MG. |

Disagree respectfully. Hamhuis, Higgins, Malholtra, Torres, Lappierre, Ehrhoff, Samuelsson and a few other added were all Gillis. Without the proper mix of talent and those players in the lineup we don't contend at that time...period.
Trading 2nds for rentals yes I agree, he effectively dismantled a good contending team in a few years trying to keep them contending with rentals.
But Gillis made some bold, sharp moves to get that 2011 team into contention...love him or hate him. - LordHumungous
I agree, he was handed a core in their prime but they needed to be surrounded with depth in order to compete for the Cup. |

A guy added like Sundin or even Demitra helped show that core what they could do. |

And that's exactly what he did by bringing in the the aforementioned players I stated in nthe previous post to compliment the existing core. Without those additions Gillis made...we don't contend. |

Interesting signing for sure...I like it!! Can't understand how he wasn't drafted though? Late bloomer maybe? - LeftCoaster
His first season in the WHL with the Giants didn't help. 1W - 7L.
His numbers since being traded are unreal though. |

Could be a good find. We do seem to dig up goalies. Now if they could only unearth a Defenceman or two. |

Yes I agree every 1 of those acquisitions was a slam dunk home run. The run would not have been otherwise. Gillis seems to go uncredited for that. But the stinker of the goalie situation was too much |

I still say that is an Aquillini hire.
Gillis said months before her was not a fan of that style, and Aquillini was a fan of Torts style.
As Chris Carter says " Make sure you have a fall guy" - VANTEL
Yes that was not MG who clearly hated the idea. It became clear to me when he was agitated and told the press he informed ownership to stay outta the way and let him do his job that he was throwing the torts thing in their face.
Of course gillis was fired 1st because of it. I wouldnt be surprised if owners screwed up the loungo situation too.
Btw that broad i dumped became a few days of hell. She kept inviting to come for dates and sleepovers still.....but when I assured her it was truly over she went balistic. Had to have her blocked by phone company all social media, restraining order in the works.... and I only dated her a week. Wow. |

Nonis tried pretty hard to clean up the mess left by Burke but yes Nonis could have very well been worse than MG. - LordHumungous
No....clearly nonis was a dud and probably the worst gm in history. Couldnt assess talent in any position outside the crease. Couldnt make a trade without getting his pocket picked, then lose those guys to FA.
Only thing nonis did that was good was bring us luo and schneider. Kudos on that. 2 for 2 in the crease. Did the same in TO too. Total bum otherwise. Worst gm ever. |

I respectfully disagree.
The team just started to get back to the playoffs and it took a step back when Nonis took over. Instead of cleaning up Burke's mess, Nonis stayed status quo with the team and kept Burkes pre lockout roster while all the teams around him were exercising the *free buy out* to restructure for the upcoming years under the new salary cap and the new rules... Nonis stood pat and couldnt compete. He talked new NHL and the effectiveness of speed and started to fill the team up with useless small players who could skate. Clearly he had a poor vision of what was to come in the NHL. He failed to see that the rules set in place about clutching and grabbing really helped the big players who now could skate freely with the puck without being hooked and towing around 2 or 3 midgets that Nonis would have on the ice.
Nonis' one good draft year was the actual lockout year and he was only GM for not even a month. He admitted they just stayed the course which means most of the work done over the previous year was under Burke.
MG was definitely a welcome change and found some great additions early on. Nonis failed to find players for the team... he didnt have a spare penny because his loyalty to his core was more important than planning for the salary cap.

Are those illegal? - LeftCoaster
What Bath Salts we refer to are synthetic drugs from china. They use to label them bath salts to get them through customs.
They are constantly changing the molecular structure of these synthetics to stay ahead of the classifications. Its a goose chase. All the manufacturer has to do is change one molecule and it circumnavigates the classification... by the time they list the new variation... they have a new one in place...
