I sure hope this is a fake rumour! He's just not ideal he's pretty awful. Hopefully you guys can flip him for something decent at the deadline! - Aaron_85
I hope it is too. I agree, Franson sucks on D and we don't need him. He was a mess when he went to Nashville and there's a reason he hasn't been signed yet by anybody. He's big and has a great shot from the point and he hits, all qualities we can get out of Risto. We should pass, play the kids but we'll probably end up signing him. |

I think this is a little unfair. First, the kids are already playing. He wouldn't be c-blocking anyone. Second, he did play some decent hockey for the last several years. He was in demand at the deadline and he scored them a good return. What is hurting him is that 1) he sucked in Nashville and 2) He was asking for too much money when teams had money to spend. Now the money has dried up and it is a buyer's market.
At worst he is a placeholder and fits the immediate need (a vet on a short-term deal). At best he might be someone you can move in the second year when better options are available. I don't love him but he does fit one of our few remaining needs without hurting the long-term plan. |

what am I missing with this guy? - homiedclown
If the reports are true, and they want a two-year contract, he's most likely not going to make that significant of an impact. |

I think it's a mistake and Franson isn't very good. I'd rather see what we have out of McCabe and Pysyk at camp. We're not a playoff team so no need to sign Franson, play the kids. Franson will be in our top 4 if we sign him and that's scary imo. |

Pysyk is a lock. When McCabe is good enough it is Weber that will sit. Where is the downside? |

Why's that? I don't rate him that highly either but on paper he's probably better than the alternative. |

I just would rather play the kids then sign Franson. |

Not sure Franson really changes that. I think Pysyk is here no matter what, and I think McCabe gets sent back regardless. Having Franson here would limit Gorges and Webers minutes, which would be ideal. |

I think they really want McCabe in Rochester this year. With how young the rest of the D is, it probably wouldn't hurt to mitigate the rookie type mistakes some by bringing in a more veteran guy instead. Hamilton said way earlier in the off season that McCabe could play at the NHL level but would be better off getting in one more year at the AHL level. I think the organization feels the same way. |

I agree too . Don't forget the injuries will happen. Not really much for replacement D men that could fit right in. |

They might want McCabe in Rochester for no other reason than he wouldn't be hitting various contract levels at the same time as Eichel and Reinhart.

Interesting article on the issues in Toronto if anyone is bored and wants a read
https://the-cauldron.com/...l-in-the-pits-8c7e91eb044 - Havic3814
Very intersting. In a way it kind of reminds me of how we've chased out several stars over the last 30 years (Andreychuk being a shining example).
I've been saying over and over that I don't like what Toronto is doing (the all-over-the-place rebuild) and I don't really care that they have an all-star front office. It wouldn't surprise me if they are mired in mediocrity for years to come. |

While this guy sounds a lot like Garth, he does make some good points.
The media in Toronto is absolutely horrific. Kessel wasn't perfect, but he wasn't the problem either.
You can find a lot of similarities between the TOR and BUF media. |

It was a good read. A little too long and drawn out, but the point behind it is pretty accurate. In fact the same could be said about some people in Buffalo. The blue collar town wants blue collar athletes.
Give me skill, speed and sprinkle in the grit, not the other way around. |

To be fair, he is a guy who can take a regular shift. If he was paid like a million to play bottom pair and 2nd unit PP time then meh. Not too bad on a short deal. |
