Bachman might be a journeyman, but he has still been a very good goalie in the ahl and at time in the NHL. He was outstanding a few years ago against us when playing for Dallas.
Will he ever be more than an ahl vet/3rd string ? I don't know bit I'm stoke mgmt picked up some quality experience at the ahl level.
As far as the others, I think Jones, McEnemy, and Fedun will be pleasant surprises in Utica this year and Blomstrand is my dark horse for most exciting player on the team. - belcherbd
oh. also. if playing lights out against the canucks made you a very good goalie, then the majority of the league's tenders would qualify.
The canucks have a unique ability to make very average goaltenders look spectacular...no second line, no pmd, no creativity, blah blah blah.
Bachman is a plumber. Also, does anyone else just think of the Stephen King books when you read that name, or was i the only kid who read those books. |

So Richards is being let go of his contract for having oxycodone, a pain relief drug? Wow.

It's a joke that the kings are off the hook for his contract. In all seriousness though, you wish he can maybe check into rehab and get that part of his life sorted out. Too many NHL'ers go down a dark path with perscription medications and we don't need any more unfortunate endings with hockey players. |

I don't think it was due to possession but rather transporting it across the border, which is obviously illegal. Semantics I know, but thems the facts jack.
Anything to try and get out of that contract. And as far as I can tell, Oxy is illegal to possess without a prescription. |

They arent completely off the hook on his contract. According to this article he still has a cap hit, it is just lower and for shorter years than a regular buyout would be. That being said I wonder if termination means cap hit exists but no actual cash is paid to Richards
Even if the contract termination is held up, the Kings will face a cap recapture penalty of $1.35-million for the next five seasons, according to war-on-ice.com. That’s slightly less than what they would’ve been charged annually for 10 years had it been bought out.

They're not out of his contract yet. More like trying to get out. The NHLPA has filed a grievance and there is a good chance that they will be successful. And if Richards can somehow prove he got hooked while managing an injury sustained while playing for the Kings then they are really hooped.
I'm not sure what the timelines are, but if the contract termination gets overturned mid season, LA's fcked, which would probably serve them right.
Edit: I'm a shltty lawyer but I think that's how it works. |

Like I said, I don't expect him to be a factor at the NHL level but he definitly a good pickup at the AHL level. Cannata has shown some flashes of good play and is still young enough to develop some but picking up one of the better AHL goalies last year should really help this, inexperienced team.
I think your definition of plumber is a bit different than mine...... |

All Richards and his Lawyer need to prove is that LA was aware of his habit/dependency or however it is phrased, prior to when they terminated his contract.
If they knew he was dealing with these issues prior, it will be tough to argue that they decided to terminate the contract just because he was caught, not because he broke the terms of the contract. |

He's not Brodeur, but he's a pretty good number three on the depth chart. |

In which case LA will have to clear significant cap space to accommodate his contract?
Vantel might get his Lucic after all. |

Depends, I wouldn't be surprised if the NHLPA win that the NHL allows LA to buy out richards, even though it is out of the normal window. In that case they would be saddled with slightly more than the 1.35 recapture penalty they are faceing now.

Seems strange for a team to stand by a player with some spousal abuse issues and walk away from a player with substance abuse issues.
Guess Voynov is the better player or is more valuable to the team.
Must of been a lot going on behind the scenes. Still can't see him getting his contract terminated unless he refused treatment/rehab.

I hope I'm not stealing any ammunition from you Carol for a future blog but I was looking at some potential waiver steals based upon teams who currently are either over the cap or have too many players signed who are waiver eligible.
Detroit- has 6 players that will need to clear and are 950K over the cap.
Landon Ferriero- RW, 24, scored 27 G and 42 pts in the AHL last year.
Andy Miele - C, 27, scored 26 G and 70 pts in the AHL last year, very small.
Joakim Andersson - C, 26, played 176 games the last 4 years in the NHL, 4C
Eric Tangradi - 26, LW, large and has put up 14G and 31 pts in 48 last year in ahl
NYR -
Dylan McIlrath-D, 23, massive potential shutdown defender I think is eligible
Chris Summers- D, 27, depth shutdown defender
Chi-
Jeremy Morin - RW, 24, good ahl scorer and 10 G, 22 pts in 82 NHL gms.
Victor Tikhonov - C, 27, doubtful but Kruger, Nordstrom, Dano might force him
Cal-
Drew Shore- C, 24, good size and good AHL scorer
Derek Grant- C, 25, good size and all round player, good on FOs
Was-
Stanislav Galiev- RW, 23, very skilled forward scored 25 G 45 Pt in AHL last year
Aaron Ness - D, 25 puck moving offensive dman, but small

Interesting. Does the draft order determine waiver pickup order??

David Schlemko is still a UFA, I'd take him over anyone we have one the blueline after the top 3. But I'd prefer a high draft pick so fingers crossed that they play Sbisa 20 minutes a night.
