Losing more than you win.
Trading aging core players like Higgins, Burrows, Hamhuis and Hansen.

Acquiring draft picks instead of trading them away.

Examples, please.

Nope. I'd support a proper rebuild. I don't buy what they're trying to sell.
- Nucker101

There's no such thing as a "proper rebuild"…..what the (frank) is that?

You can't trade the twins because they don't want that and they have FULL NMC's. They come as a pair for the price of 14 million dollars, which is nearly impossible for another team to absorb unless there's a whole bunch of caveats involved….it's better to just keep them and wait out their time to retire.

That's when the team will get a couple top five picks, most likely.

Benning is trading away all our draft picks for older players...explain that!

Canucks won't get a top 5 pick with the Sedins on the team, they will keep them from getting a Toews or Kane in the draft.

The Canucks system was left completely void by previous managements, he's trying to close that gap and still draft with our own picks while using acquired picks to find younger players….it's not that difficult to see.

That's easy to say but not necessarily as easy to do. Those guys have NTC's, someone has to want them and you have to deal with the Salary Cap of other teams.

I agree with the sentiment in principle, but I understand this isn't a matter of just doing whatever you want….that's not reality.

- LeftCoaster

Apparently on HB you can just trade any player from "your" team for whatever you want without consequence, making you clearly smarter than all of the actual GM's in the league.

In two draft years, 2014 & 2015, he's added more picks than he's traded away….I fail to see your point?

Adding a pick to the Prust deal was insurance for Kassian potentially being turfed by the Canadiens, he's a nut job and they obviously were one of few teams willing to make a deal for him but they wouldn't do it without some insurance.

Ahh, but which firsts do you want? I'd take Carolina's, and Toronto's, from the Staal trade they are going to make...

Don't forget trading away our Swedish stud d prospect Forsling for a poopty AHL player that he tried to sell us on before throwing him in a deal with another draft pick for shi7ty Sutter.

Forling was a 5th round pick, the actual likelihood of him making the NHL is really slim. That's really a non-event.

In the past two years he's picked 14 times out of a possible 14 picks including three 1st's, one 2nd and two 3rd's…where the majority of the NHL caliber players come from.

The one 2nd he traded away was for a highly skilled 21 year old 13th overall first round pick that Calgary gave up on.

The bottom line is that Benning and co. are abject failures and this franchise is doomed.

I believe this is the correct tally of in and out.
I personally think that there has been more value moving out than moving in even if the actual number of picks is close going either way.

That said changes are happening for better or worse which is what many were screaming for. I don't necessarily think that change means improvement, long or short term though.

Time will tell whether Benning's moves pan out but I don't think it is unfair to suggest that he has moved a lot NHL talent and some decent picks and really only acquired one player in his prime. The rest are either role players or players/picks that come with a decent amount of uncertainty.

Out
Kesler
Bieksa
Lack
Kassian
Garrison
Forsling
5th ( Kassian)
3rd (Pedan)
2nd (Vey)
2nd ( Baertschi)
2nd ( Sutter)
3rd ( Dorsett)
7th ( Garrison trade)
Bonino
Clendening

In
Baertschi
Vey
Sutter
Sbisa
Prust
Dorsett
Pedan
1st (Kesler)
3rd ( Sutter)
3rd ( Lack)
7th (Lack)

Owership wants this team in the PO's so you will have to deal with it. When Playoffs aren't on the radar for 2-3 years you should have your 'proper' rebuild.

How can you lead the charge for Tank Nation with your eyes closed?

You wanted change and high draft picks, well you are getting them.

Bro Jake just said he hung with Lucic this summer and he was really disappointed he didn't end up on Canucks. Next year is a very good possibility he will be. So we can look forward to another summer of you jumping ship again.

You say you want change but you don't even want to let go of Burrows Hamhuis and Higgins. Eller is a decent third liner with a decent defensive game but you want Burrows who is in his mid 30 s . The difference in contract costs is 800k because Eller is 3.5 for 3 more years , Burr at 4.6. Eller is 26 yrs old.

I got news for you we don't have the players in our system to step in and you will not get Brandon Saad or ROR for Burrows Higgins or Hamhuis.

Lower your expectations , last I heard they couldn't give Higgins away.

I am sure we will hear all year if Sutter scores 15 goals with Higgins or Vrbata on his line . Let's see how he plays the following year when he has Lucic and Virtanen as wingers

- VANTEL

Well said.

I think it's pretty clear that Benning wants Lucic here and will pay for him.

Why would we want that POS on our team?
He's been declining the last 3 years, is invisible most nights and is a total jack a$$. Totally against bringing him in, opposite of the direction the team should be going.

Did he get No Picks back in any of those deals?

It's not like Benning is dealing from a position of strength here.

I would be upset if he wasn't getting any picks back.
