I do recall it being non malicious ball busting and no one busted balls more than Payton.
Giangreco also stuck up for Walters dad when he was put in jail for dui, and then it turned out to be only something that was making him dizzy. I'd rather watch Giangreco than any other sports anchor in town. - 6628
Agree.
Giangreco was also one of the few Chicago sports anchors that actually new something about hockey. |

Unless 88 ends up in jail, Stan is in a position to "do no wrong". He can dangle 88 the way he dangled Sharp. Ask for the world. If he gets it, he's got the excuse for the trade. If he can't get it, keep him. As long as he's repentant and makes the effort he's worth it. I wouldn't be much of a Christian if I didn't offer a repentant soul mercy.
If spending your day with the cup, cancelling celebrations and thinking about living in a 12 x 12 cell. Missing the banner raising and start of the season isn't bottom enough, then he needs to go to jail. For his own mental health. Head to the detox mansion.
If Stanagment plays this right, all will be well in the hawks future. Even after this summer of discontent. GO HOCKS. |

Agree. You don't trade him just to trade him and I don't see Stan doing that. On the other hand if someone gives you something too good to refuse you have to at least consider it.
Also, see what you did there. |

That's basically been the Blackhawks formula, and it worked well before these big raises to Toews and Kane, which would have been fine if the cap kept rising as expected. Now their contracts make up about 30% of the cap where it seems like 25% for the top two might be a better formula. I was trying to find a website with historical numbers but I couldn't find one. Pittsburg with Malkin and Crosby are $18.2 together - that's about 25% now, higher the past few years and Pittsburg has fallen short.
I think the Blackhawks are a bit top heavy and that'll impact how much can be paid to 2 through 12 on the roster. A slight downgrade on the 2nd line RW might could mean upgrading 2nd line center and moving Anisimov to 3rd line (another upgrade) and then maybe getting another defenseman to upgrade the 3 pair. Oh, signing Kruger too. That seems more competitive to me than keeping Kane with a weaker supporting cast.
Down the road a couple of years, it means more cap room to sign the current ELC guys to bridge deals who can then get paid core dollars when the current core starts hanging them up in five years or so.
If I'm Stan Bowman the only thing holding me back is the 16-17 season. That's the only year of the next four in which I'm wondering if the team is better with Kane than without. There will be a lot of roster stability from this season to next. If the new guys progress as is hoped, that could be another cup year. On the other hand, you bring in a couple solid guys as described above, it would still be a cup contender. - matt_ahrens
Don't forget about a likely expansion draft for possibly 2 new teams right about that time.
And, if this potential trade (okay random baseless speculation - but still) doesn't scare you I don't know what will - and I trust this management team a great deal:

I'm feeling about a potential trade of Kane the way I think a lot of us are -- if they get a good return then we'll roll with it (we don't have any choice or say in the matter) like the Saad trade which I think was a good one. The problem from my point of view is I don't see how you get a return that's good enough. My ferverent prayer (assuming he isn't guilty of the crime he's being investigated for) is that Kane gets his proverbial crap together and retires a Hawk. |

You're still missing the point. Trading Kane is not a "slight downgrade" at 2nd line RW. It is a MASSIVE downgrade at RW and a significant hit to your PP and forces you to replace a Top 3 winger with an overpaid free agent or a depth player who was already in your system. Is 30% of the cap for two players high? Probably a little. But remember that the expectation was for the cap to rise last year, which would've put this year's cap somewhere around 77 million and next year's around 80, which would make them 25%.

I've been firmly entrenched in the don't trade Kane camp but, I'll be honest, that proposal gives me pause. A versatile scoring rat, a franchise goaltender prospect, and a first round pick that projects to be at the very least a mid-lottery pick? That's pretty close to fair return, even though it would hurt your repeat chances--but it does set you up to expand your championship window by increasing depth and talent long term. |

Well, when you put it that way.... Guess I don't see the value in the 2 players especially for a team in a win now mode. We have a versatile scoring rat (Shaw) and a good pair of goalies - Darling is young yet and further along than Subban who hasn't been very impressive yet (IMO). Don't see how that helps the Hawks enough to offset the loss of a Kane. Some suggested trades (i.e. for one of Edmonron's former first round picks for example) make some sense to me but not this one. |

Marchand has way more skill than Shaw does, and can play top 6. He's got the ability to put up 60 points. And Shaw and Marchand on the same team? Yikes, talk about making your opponents angry.
Subban is only 21. That's a whole 5 years younger than Darling. You're talking about not needing to find/draft a goalie for the next 10 years at least, and you give yourself flexibility by being able to trade him or Darling if the right package comes along.
And what if by the grace of God that first round pick turns into Auston Mathews? Sure, you've lost 2015, but you'd be cup favorites again the following year.
I'm not convinced they're the best team in the league after a deal like that, but I would feel really good about the next 5 years after this season. |

Kinda my point. I think Hawks are arguably the best team in hockey without that trade. That said if they have to make a trade then my perspective changes maybe. |

Like I said, I'm fully against trading him. But if you believe that he has done or will do irreparable damage to your brand, or will spend a significant amount of time suspended by the league or, worse, be convicted, then this is a deal that I don't have a problem with.
Boston is a really bad team this year. That pick alone could be awfully high, then throw in a 25-30 goal winger who can play both wings and on the PP and a 21 year old physical monster goalie prospect, and I think that's enough to not make me lament a trade. |

The Bruins ran Seguin out of town for missing curfew twice, once when he was out with his parents. With all the stories of Kane's shennanigans does anyone really think the Bruins would take a chance on him? And if there is a remote chance they do make this trade there is no chance they don't lottery protect that draft pick.

Let's be realistic here, folks.
Did five bored GMs phone the Blackhawks and have idle chit chat about if the 'hawks decided to trade Kane? Sure, seems plausible.
But no GM is going to do a single thing until this ugly mess is cleaned up - no one is going to risk trading for a guy who may go to prison (and be unavailable for hockey). Not to mention the PR nightmare it will be.
Until the legal troubles are resolved, Kane is going nowhere. Absolutely nowhere. - Atomic Wedgie

Thanks for sharing, let's see what we know right now is they have not traded him, and it's obvious the teams offering haven't offered much. Kane is at least a top 20 forward and those guys just don't grow on trees. Willing to wait and let this play out. |

True and what you suggest about them actually making a pitch for Kaner may be as well.
It also may be an opportunity for them to get a big name player back after trading away not only recognizable names but a potential star (at the time) in Seguin.
Not saying there's anything to it...just sayin'. |

Not saying the trade would/could happen but how would you feel good about a Hall/RNH for Kane trade? To me that is a return that would seem satisfactory. I think there are scenarios that could yield a good return. I do not know what they are nor care to research it but I believe they are there.
My personal feeling is that this Kane situation is almost a blessing in disguise (not saying it is a blessing if he violated this girl in any way, but whether he did or not what is done is done ). I love Kane. I love how he give us two lethal lines that give opposing team fits. No one, NO ONE is as clutch as him. But two players with 10.5 cap hits is just not good cap management. Said this the day both were signed. Look how mightily the Pens have struggled with Malkin and Crosby. They cannot get anything that resembles a decent supporting cast for them.
Management signed these two banking on the cap going up 1.5-2.5 mil a year. That simply is not going to happen in the foreseeable future and if our window is NOW (and I agree we have about 3-5 years) then maybe trading Kane not out of necessity (ie a good hockey trade not a salary dump) may make sense for the right return. Otherwise say goodbye to Crawford next summer, say goodbye to 1-2 of TT, Dano and AP after that. Say goodbye to getting a solid #5 dman this summer or next.
I am sure many will disagree and that is fine what do I know I'm just a fan but as a fan I see more good coming from a trade than bad. Again a trade the yields a nice return not a salary dump.
