I know this seems a bit crazy, but is a 1 season suspension for Kane by the Hawks Front Office a viable option to let him get the help he needs and yet save some face for keeping him and giving them future chances to win cups? If he would be suspended, would they still be responsible for his cap? - arps714

As I said before Kane is not going anywhere unless he's indicted or refuses treatment. Now that the innuendo is the Hawks aren't going to abandon Kane (how would that look to other NHL players) please stop with Skinner rather keep Bickell.
Now if there is LTIR available for a team if a player seeks treatment that would be great, otherwise Stanley's got to work his magic.
Like me a Rozy signing into the season around league minimum would be very nice.
Darling comes to the Blackhawks with his troubled past plays great for them signs 2 year contract, wins Stanley Cup, now Kane's issue, they say there are no coincidences in life.

What help does he need? - Ogilthorpe2
I think this is a fair question. There is evidence that when he has gotten himself into trouble of one sort or another, he has always been drinking. (Trouble with actions, not just words.) Kane could decide for himself that his history is enough evidence that he has a problematic relationship with alcohol or that he needs to make some lifestyle changes or something else. It's up to him to decide if he has a problem or not and what help, if any, he needs to address it.
More difficult to know is what are the criteria - formal or informal - that the Blackhawks will use to evaluate Kane's off-ice conduct to determine if he is still a long-term fit with the organization. |

Yes, he would, if it meant making things work for this season, the Hawks would simply "make it back up" to Kruger the next year with a long term deal. That says a ton about Marcus Kruger! |

Over time - again, assuming nothing worse comes out of the investigation - he could rehabilitate much of his reputation. - StLBravesFan
What reputation? His reputation is not worth rehabilitating; he needs to create a totally new reputation. |

My point was, we still have little to no idea what actually happened, and under what circumstances. Plus, like I've said before, a person who is a bad (stupid) drunk, is not necessarily an alcoholic. |

Yeah really seems like it. First we were hearing how this was the last straw. Now were hearing they dont want to punish him? Um, why not? Also, what about the sacred brand? Feels like something changed... DO they think he is innocent
 - Hawkeyes1[/quote?
The information leaking out of this case is there is not enough evidence to charge him.
Her main contention is he "overpowered" her, but there is no physical evidence to collaborate her claim.
If he is not charged, and down the road it all goes away with some form of payment, then what is there to punish??
Also, everyone assumes there was some form of alcohol abuse by Kane on the night in question. No one, not his driver, not any employee at the night club, not one person at the club has come forward with any eyewitness clarification on his condition that night. Just random speculation on this site that want to convict him of this because it "ruined their summers".

Still see Bickell going to Calgary, Versteeg to the Habs or Jets. Resign Kruger to a cheap one year deal, then re-up him when they clear more space. Loyalty. |

I could live with that as well DK, but you have to wonder if Florida will be sellers at the trade dead line. They are an up and coming team, and if there are no budgetary restraints, Uncle Dale could very well be a buyer. - TexasFlood
Have to agree Tex...
Dale has built a decent team in South Florida with a lot of young talent - could this finally be the year they break through...they won the division a couple of years back and lost in the playoffs to the Devils who went on to lose to the Kings in the Finals.
Interested to see what Jagr does this season down there as well.
We'll see what happens but the Hawks will definitely need to upgrade the defense as the season goes along. Not sold on Daley... |

I totally agree that a bad/stupid drunk is not necessarily an alcoholic. The question Kane is going to need to ask himself is whether or not his relationship with alcohol is problematic, and, if it is, what he's willing to do to change. We don't even know if he was drunk on the night in question, do we? I think I remember reading he was drinking though.
The thing we do know is that he's had a lot of negative press this summer from an incident that happened around 3 AM in a situation that he willingly put himself into. Right? That needs to not happen anymore.
Based on what's been reported here, this incident has lost Kane some trust in the organization. He's going to need to rebuild that. It's hard to know the remedy when we don't know the problem but it's not hard to see that at least some remedy is going to be necessary for Kane to stay with the Blackhawks long term. He can't make the kind of public comments he did about partying anymore. He needs to change. This is speculative but I don't think the Blackhawks are going to tell him what he needs to do for them to regain their trust because it isn't a checklist of actions, they maturation. They'll support him in what he decides to do and then later they'll decide if it was enough. It's grow up time for Kaner, no matter if no charges are ever filed. |

Thing is, you could be writing most of this post in 2012 and on the heels of that new contract? I don't know if he gets another chance with the hawks. The hawks made a huge commitment to him and he's pissed on it. I think you might be better off moving him if he's not charged or suspended. |

Is Erik Gustafsson by any chance the same guy who played for the Flyers and then went to the khl for a year? Just wondering as there are three Erik Gustafsson,s in the Hockey DB site. Can anyone tell me for sure? |

Yeah, exactly. I like the one step at a time approach the Blackhawks seem to be taking based on this blog. I just feel like Kane really needs to make a big change. It would almost be easier if he 1) had a problem, 2) admitted the problem, and 3) went into rehab to resolve the problem than if he doesn't have a drinking problem at all because what would he need to do to get back into the good graces of the club again?
