FWIW, this is what I think. Or, let me say, if he CAN make some fundamental changes, then why not keep him? If they push him in that direction, literally or figuratively, publicly or privately, and they still eventually deal him, they will get more value the more days that peel off the calendar where he at least appears to be on good behavior. - John Jaeckel
The why not i think is for Cap reasons. They have a chance now to move him and free up 10.5 million in cap space. When the extentions were signed there wasn't a .73c canadian dollar and the salary cap was expected to grow. Now with it probably heading south this could be way to get out of cap hell and do it without looking like the bad guys. |

Gaining cap space by trading one of the best, most clutch big game players in the league is sort of like cutting off your nose despite your face

You do have a point but lets say Kane says he will change and then pulls something worse in a years time then what? You've lost one of the clutch big time game players for NOTHING. |

If that's true, then 50% of all bar going Chicagoans are clinically defined as alcoholics on any given Saturday Night. - Ogilthorpe2
False. 50% of Chicagoans have not been involved in multiple altercations that have threatened their careers. 50% of Chicagoans have not had to have been sat down by their employers and warned to quit because of incidents that have resulted in criminal charges, and cases that have never seen the light of day, but would have for any other person. 50% of Chicago do not need full time handlers because they can go off at any moment under the influence and do incredibly dangerous and stupid things. No, 50% of Chicagoans go out and have a drink, not act like a belligerent a-hole with a violent tendencies that threaten their careers/life path.

right. Hypothetically, you could trade him for Sidney Crosby and save some cap space! Obviously that's not going to happen but Kane could fetch some valuable pieces in a trade. Remember, the Oilers won a cup without Gretzky and the Kings have won a couple without Kane. There is no rule that says he is the only route to the Stanley Cup. |

At this point, you're highly unlikely to get "fair' value back anyways, so IMO its a bigger risk to trade him than to keep him. The team trading the best player in the deal, rarely wins the trade, unless its a Herschel Walker type blockbuster. This is all assuming he's not in jail, and not suspended of course...which at this point is anyone's guess. |

You must go to nicer bars than me. Then again, it could just be me since I hate people...or could be I was exaggerating just a tad.

Someone else said that here last week...don't think they were joking around either, but then again, sarcasm can be hard to detect in print. |

My point was, we still have little to no idea what actually happened, and under what circumstances. Plus, like I've said before, a person who is a bad (stupid) drunk, is not necessarily an alcoholic. - Ogilthorpe2

If you're a bad "stupid drunk" and you continue to drink and be a bad "stupid drunk" regardless of the fact that you're a bad "stupid drunk", you're more than a bad "stupid drunk", you're an alcoholic.
Alcoholism is a chronic disease including uncontrolled drinking and preoccupation with alcohol. Very common more than 3 million new US cases per year.
Behaviors: aggression, agitation, compulsive behavior, self-destructive behavior, or lack of restraint. |

If he was doing it every night, or even frequently, then I would agree, but that's not happening, or we would know about it by now. Getting blitzed and out of hand once or twice a year does not make one an alcoholic...it just makes him an idiot. He's been in town what, 8ish years? How many alcohol related incidents have there been that we know of? 2? Maybe 3 if we count the cab incident? I highly doubt a true alcoholic scores at a PPG pace...and I don't want to hear any of that "functioning alcoholic" nonsense. He does more than just function...he execels. |

But Ogi, WE DO NOT KNOW IF HE IS DOING IT EVERY NIGHT, at home. He may hit the bottle every night. There is a simple way to look at him, when he gets in trouble, alcohol is involved. That is enough proof for me to say he has an issue with it. PERIOD! |

There is a GM out there who would LOVE to have Kane (warts and all). Everyone please wake up. How many times have we done a "That guys was signed for that much?" or "He was traded for who?". - powerenforcer
True, there's always a team that will overlook a players past.
But how many incidents can a player have before the issues outweigh his value?
Also, this incident isn't an "allegedly striking an old man cab driver" thing.
Rape allegation is pretty serious.
Can the warts keep adding up, & still be considered nothing?
Christ, he isn't even guilty, (yet), and companies are dropping him, (EAsports for one). |

No, not PERIOD.
You don't know, and neither do I, but if he is, it sure as hell ain't affecting his on-ice performance.

Ok, fine, one company.
I guess he can do whatever he wants to do, and everyone will continue to line up for a trade at full value.
