So, just caught the roster for the rookie challenge. Hadn't noticed Rochester giving out a contract to a goalie named C.J. Motte. Was under the impression that Markarov and Lieuwen would be there until Ullmark finished healing up. Does anyone know what's up with this?

They offered Lieuwen an NHL/AHL contract, but I'm not convinced that he will return healthy in September. Maybe Motte was insurance for this, but can develop in the ECHL if not needed in Rochester.

I was expecting TM to sign a veteran goalie. He mentioned that he needed a couple starting goalies in system. I didn't realize that it would be Lieuwen/Motte for Rochester.

Makarov will be in Rochester this year probably as the starter with Lieuwen doing backup duty until they know for sure he's right for once. Then you may see a bit more of them sharing the crease. Ullmark is out probably until after the new year due to hip surgery.

Motte is probably going to end up in the ECHL to start the season. But any kind of injury or anything will cause them to need another guy. That's pretty much where he comes in.
