He was a cool guy. Ned really let him down.

If you're helping a fellow poster satisfy their Miles Davis fix, you might want to take it to PM. The new ref seems like a stickler. |

True but beatnik, bebop, and jazz go hand in hand. Part of that sub-culture. |

Language instead of instruments, but close enough. All of them were more rockstar than the "rockstarz" of today. |

I'm just a little more pissed off than usual with the organization because my wife reminded me last week that we spent over $80,000 in season tickets and playoffs. That's 16 seasons of putting my support (emotional and financial) behind the canuck brand only to watch implosion after implosion. Last seasons the wife and I said enough is enough.
When I say people celebrate mediocrity I mean it’s the blind enthusiasm that baffles me. I don’t see how people can be optimistic about this team when failure has followed this franchise since day one. I’m not talking about the players (who many are my sports heroes) I’m talking about ownership and management. Why should I be optimistic when history says I shouldn’t be? Will this management team be any different?
I’m not overly impressed with what I’ve seen so far.
Having a genuine superstar(s) on this team would help cover up the inevitable (frank) ups that owner/management will create. Getting that superstar is a whole lot easier when you have a top three pick.
Oh yeah, my dealer is away so I havent had a good blast in weeks. Might have something to do with current mood... - bloatedmosquito
Bloated - with all due respect buddy....can I call you buddy? LOL
Past failures have nothing to do with Linden & Benning. You can't say everyone before them failed so they're gonna fail as well, technically you can, but that assumption means you think every management from here on forward is also doomed to fail. So why watch at all?
Also, no one is "celebrating" this team as it stands; people like myself believe future success's will only be achieved thru the draft, which I think Benning is the first GM to actually understand, he's also the first GM (to the best of my knowledge) to come from a long standing background as an amateur scout.
Management before Benning left a serious gap in terms of a talent pool, to me the moves that can be deemed important are the youth he's 1) drafted (two drafts) and 2) traded for. Nothing earth shattering but we now have a small amount of youth to be somewhat excited about.
Do top three picks increase your chances for success, yes, is there luck involved in terms of making the right selection, absolutely. Just ask St. Louis and Pittsburgh who both passed on Jonathan Toews. One example.
Obviously top picks are great, but they're no guarantee for success. Colorado - two first overalls in their lineup, a second overall & a third overall, they missed the playoffs last year, and those picks weren't in the past couple years....again, one example. |

It seems so simple. The higher you draft the better player you get, not just in the first round but every subsequent round, the better you'll be. And you can find lots of examples where this has worked. And you can find lots where it hasn't. And you can find examples of teams that have been competitive for extended periods and never won a cup and teams that have won a Stanley Cup and then never came close again, even with the same core.
Point being: there's not one single road to the Stanley Cap and no map. We're all going in blind, so lets just see what we'll see. |

A friend of mine blames Harper for everything. He's the reason he doesn't have a job, a girlfriend and has no money. All Harpers fault. Apparently a new prime minister will change all that for him. |

Tough fishing in Bamfield today, two days in a row I haven't won a dime in the derby
Canucks will be a tougher team to play against, thus more entertaining, at least in my eyes. I don't know if they'll make the playoffs, but they'll be knocking on the door. - LeftCoaster
Two steelhead and 1 coho landed today... lost 4 unknowns but I'm pretty sure one was a big steelie... I hooked him in the Skeena and he blew right by me upstream and took a right turn into the Bulkley... awesome....
Parked my camper here for a couple days.

I may head to the Kitimat if I hear the rain wasnt too bad. A couple of weeks ago we woke up parked in the river after it rained all night |
