Tried to quote Lefty about fishing... this glitch is critical!!!

Two steelhead and 1 coho landed today... lost 4 unknowns but I'm pretty sure one was a big steelie... I hooked him in the Skeena and he blew right by me upstream and took a right turn into the Bulkley... awesome....

I may head to the Kitimat if I hear the rain wasnt too bad. A couple of weeks ago we woke up parked in the river after it rained all night.

Parked my camper here for a couple days.

New system they are testing. Sometimes it's better the post comes up blank instead of being ridiculed.

The key is to set the bar low. Don't try and be a hero early, it will just come back and duck you in the end.

Im trying to post a printscreen link but it wont let me...oh well. I'll just resort to "ridiculing" Scooby.

Remember the season we had Torts and you said "Kesler and Kassian are the new leaders of the team"?

...I imagine you judge our countrie's leadership with the same logic.

It seems so simple. The higher you draft the better player you get, not just in the first round but every subsequent round, the better you'll be. And you can find lots of examples where this has worked. And you can find lots where it hasn't. And you can find examples of teams that have been competitive for extended periods and never won a cup and teams that have won a Stanley Cup and then never came close again, even with the same core.

Point being: there's not one single road to the Stanley Cap and no map. We're all going in blind, so lets just see what we'll see.

- CubanBuffet

Absolutely - just like it drives me nuts when people say "a proper rebuild", WTF does that mean? You put a team together with the resources you have at your disposal, no team goes into the season looking to lose, that's just ridiculous!! Especially when you have two of the top ten scorers on your team.

For the record. 90% of the things I say on here are to get a reaction. I've hated Kesler for a long time, so not sure that is something I'd feel, sounds more like me looking for a reaction. Looks like I got one.

Last year Buffalo went in looking to lose and Phoenix hadn't played too many games before they decided too as well, but I get what your saying.

I hate that every summer we insist on declaring winners and losers, despite the fact that no actual games have been played.

Buffalo didn't start selling off until the new year if I recall correctly? But teams usually start selling off later in the season, no one team in my memory "try's" to lose from the get-go.

With the salary cap, even the sell-off is more difficult these days.

For an accomplished fisherman it has probably been a banner year, if you're able to compensate for the heat and drought. He's probably been drinking away his sorrow that summer's over.

I've personally been dealing with a two day wine hangover.

Buffalo had been selling off for a while and I have no doubt that they went in to the season fully intending to compete for McDavid. And I don't mean resigned to the fact that the were likely a bottom team. I think they went after him with an enthusiasm that I personally find extremely off putting.

Bloated - with all due respect buddy....can I call you buddy? LOL

Past failures have nothing to do with Linden & Benning. You can't say everyone before them failed so they're gonna fail as well, technically you can, but that assumption means you think every management from here on forward is also doomed to fail. So why watch at all?

Also, no one is "celebrating" this team as it stands; people like myself believe future success's will only be achieved thru the draft, which I think Benning is the first GM to actually understand, he's also the first GM (to the best of my knowledge) to come from a long standing background as an amateur scout.

Management before Benning left a serious gap in terms of a talent pool, to me the moves that can be deemed important are the youth he's 1) drafted (two drafts) and 2) traded for. Nothing earth shattering but we now have a small amount of youth to be somewhat excited about.

Do top three picks increase your chances for success, yes, is there luck involved in terms of making the right selection, absolutely. Just ask St. Louis and Pittsburgh who both passed on Jonathan Toews. One example.

Obviously top picks are great, but they're no guarantee for success. Colorado - two first overalls in their lineup, a second overall & a third overall, they missed the playoffs last year, and those picks weren't in the past couple years....again, one example.

- LeftCoaster

All true, but I'm going to take a pessimistic view until the canucks prove otherwise.

Truth is, I can piss and moan all I want but it's going to be some time before this team is competing for the cup again so I better get some patience or I'm going to have to find another team to cheer for.

Solid post.

People are disappointed it isnt a fantasy cake walk... max value for the players we cant wait to get rid of.... 29 GM's unaware of the NTC's and trade requests... Like the virgin who thinks losing it will be something so very special,,, all perfect right out of a novel... but most likely she'll be drunk and end up going home with her pants on backwards.
