I can't believe this discussion is already starting....haven't we learned anything from the last few seasons about expectations on trade returns for our players.

Many have pointed out to me on here that market value doesn't dictate the return of players, only what a team is willing to give up.

Penciling in Vrbata/Hamhuis for 1sts, Higgins/Hansen/Burrows for 2nds etc. is just setting yourself up for disappointment if you are basing that on what other players of similar ilk received in return.

- belcherbd

The disappointment won't be that we won't be able to get a 1st rd pick for them, it's that we'll be in the playoff hunt and we won't trade them at all.

I found their Pinot Noir not too stand-offish.

How many Stanley Cups does Stamkos have? Oh ya...none. But, Conn Smythe winner Brad Richards, third round pick, has two.

In fact, do you know how many 1st overall picks have won a Cup in the past thirty years? Six guys in 30 years. Get off your whine wagon. It's about the sum of the whole....not a singular part.

Joe Murphy 1986 - 1990 Oilers Cup
Mike Modano 1988 - 1999 Dallas Cup
Vinny Lecavalier 1998 - 2004 Tampa Cup
M. A. Fleury 2003 - 2009 Pittsburgh Cup
Cindy Crosby 2005 - 2009 Pittsburgh Cup
Patrick Kane 2007 - multiple Chicago Cups 2010, 2013 & 2015

The winters here are becoming unbearable. Okanagan or the Island are looking very good for retirement right now.

Car troubles so no camping. Might have dodged a bullet however as it looks like it pissed with rain on the north island. Still nice having 3 days off.

We get rain, not insane downpours but we do get rain all year round, which makes for insanely nice green lawns. Our winters teeter around 0 but hardly ever fall below and we usually get an inch of snow which last a day or two and that's it. If you are reffering to Vancouver Island that is.. It's great here!

Speaking of rain...STOP! I'm sitting here in my camper watching the river rise and go muddy.... only hooked 1 yesterday... a 15ish pound steelhead who spit the hook after 10 minutes... took about 7 hours to hook that beauty

lol...I lived on the Island for two years in the mid 80's when my parents split. Comox Valley. Really liked there as it is a bit warmer than Victoria. Victoria can be a bit chilly but man do they have the best Craft Beers in Western Canada there...unreal good.

But it will most likely be the Okanagan. I like the heat and I spent all my summers there as a kid at my grandparents property. Most likely the Vernon area as Kelowna is just getting stoopid busy.

My GF and I spent a week there in May. Just love Victoria. Like I said in another post I think I may have tried every craft beer in that region and put on about ten lbs in a week...well worth it though...

While I am very excited to see our prospects in the tournament in Penticton, I just saw the rosters for both the Jets and Oilers and I am a little nervous....

We know our prospect pool isn't as deep as these clubs. A little splash of reality for the fans and club is always good. Just want to see how we compare and if we have any standouts. Bring it on.

Don't be nervous. They have been drafting high so they were bound to get better sooner or later. Just the life cycle of a NHL team. Good years and bad. It's just their turn now.

for example remember back many years ago (20+) when Detroit couldn't win a game? They were todays edmonton or toronto. Through drafting they became a powerhouse.

The Detroit model, if Edmonton can follow it, so can we.
