Agreed. We've shipped out a lot of prospects already without having really seen their full or even part of their potential. We've picked up Kane, RoR, Lehner, Bogo. Leave the team be for now and see what we have before changing it up again.

Still will have some post on here that we are lacking in places. Could be true but it's pretty much impossible to have a perfect team. Too much tinkering can ruin it .

You're right, I don't want to do it, I kind of made that clear. But the fact remains Stamkos had 72 pts. last year coming off the injury and he was on a very offensively talented Tampa team, he's not as fast as he was, and for the 10+ million a year his contract extension is going to command, he's not worth it. He should be putting up a 100 pts on that team in a full season.

As for Kane, well until this mess all gets figured out, he's nothing but poison. 10.5 million dollars a year poison.

Stamkos also faces the oppositions top defense pairing and best defensive forwards. The rest of the Tampa lineup gets to play against the lower D pairings. Those 43 goals he had is just AWFUL.

EDIT: Do you know how many guys in the NHL hit 100 points last year? 0. Absolutely nobody.

As it looks right now, they could use another top 6 RW and a top 4 LHD. However, you never know how things are gonna shake out once the season starts. I'm of the opinion that there were so many changes made to this roster this offseason that it's best to leave things be at the moment and see where the chips fall.

I'm well aware that nobody had hit a 100 pts. last year, and I respect your opinion that you like Stamkos. I myself think he is a terrific player. My opinion of trading for him though, is that he would just cost too much for what we'd be getting back. Yes, he goes up against other teams top tier defense, but what star player doesn't? His contract extension will be north of ten million, and his production is roughly a point a game. Know who else scores at roughly a point a game? Dany Heatley. Now, of course I'm not saying in anyway that these two players are on the same level, but at the end of the day it's all about points on the board and these two put up similar numbers. I just think you could get three quality NHL players who put up good numbers for the same price as one Stamkos. We'll being paying Eichel ten million in about five years so we really won't be needing to do the same with an aging Stamkos by then.

We've been talking about this from time to time over the last few years. Even if Crosby had played every game this year (he missed 5) and scored the 1.09 points he averaged, he still would have been under 90.

Scoring in the league in general is down. It hit an all time high the years after the 04-05 lockout and has been steadily declining since then.

See my edit.

It only happened 31 times the previous 10 seasons with 20 of them coming in 2 seasons.

The 10 seasons before 122 times.

It's worse than that. At least in the first dead puck era star players were still dominating. The NHL today for a number of reasons (rules, cap etc.) just isn't a game that lets star players shine, quite the opposite actually.

Ryan Miller was playing full time then. Bet he helped those 7 players hit 100

I don't want to trade what we'd need to in order to get Stamkos either. I just have an issue with you saying he's not as productive since he broke his leg. I don't think that's true at all. Yes, his point totals are down. but to say that's the result of him losing a step since his broken leg isn't accurate. His point totals that season before and after the injury aren't that different. He had 23 points in 17 games prior to the injury, and 17 points in 20 games afterwards. Not exactly the drop off you're insinuating.

He is absolutely one of the most dominant players in the game right now. It's silly to even try and say he's not as good anymore.

My only hope is that Eichel, Reinhart and whomever else it costs is able to double his production. That equates to it being better for the Sabres to me. The cost to get Stamkos would be insane and if the pieces that we would have to give up (likely Eichel, Reinhart ++) are able to exceed Stamkos' production, then we win the non-deal. Plus, I would rather keep Eichel and Reinhart.

I would rather keep them as well. I, in no way, want to give up what it would take to get Stamkos. I'm perfectly content to watch him play for a different team in the NHL.

If things fall through with Tampa this year, and he some how makes it to free agency, then I will jump on the train to open the checkbook. I don't want to lose any of the pieces we have in place to get him.

Interesting note:

Satan was named GM of Team Europe for the World Cup. I saw that on Gunner's blog.

I have to wonder...Stamkos is good and he wants to play center....Why wouldn't you trade Filppula or Johnson for a winger and let him take one of the center spots?

My guess is they prefer him at RW but who knows that trade for a winger may happen this year.

Right? Seems odd that they'd rather move Stamkos so he can play the position he wants instead of one of the other guys.
