nothing against Glencross, but NHL teams (management, coaches) keep having an unnessesary bias in favor of 'older / veteran' players.

there are various studies that alot of 30y+ players are given more icetime than younger players (18-23y), while the younger players consistently had better point/60 production and no further 'negative' effects (ie more penalty minutes or more goals against when on the ice).

Glencross if making the team will take away the spot of one of Leafs younger guys, while his expected 'production' is lower than these younger players.

'Intangibles' (leadership, experience in crucial situations etc) might matter but to what extent does Glencross bring this to the team, and to what extent to Leafs actually need this (Robidas, Polak, a few others already being there).

Glencross will probably make the team, will have some nice numbers, but the opportunity costs might be higher than necessary (Leivo, others falling out of the team).

Isn't Shawn from NFLD?

Yes he is. Stayed at the same hotel as he did. I was fortunate enough to meet his parents and spend a little time with them.

Read on twitter that in Detroit only 2 players became fulltime NHLers with Detroit by the time they were 22 while Babs was the coach

it sounds like something you are going to have to get used to. tons of patience.
that Said..Detroit was always drafting late, so they didnt get players like Marner who you wont be able to hold back long.

but for picks in the late 1st and on, they will be brought along slowly... Impatient fans wont like it

They're expecting it to wipe out 80% of Newfoundland.

Some reports have estimated as high as $300 worth of damage.

the bolded part is why Detroit never brought prospects up early.
before Summer we had a similar discussion on here, and I think it was about 20y ago that Detroit drafted a player in top10.
So Detroit's 'model' is not a model of choice, but a model of 'only option'.

top10 picks normally differ in need for development time, especially FWs and especially in current NHL. I don't think anyone is expecting Bracco, Korostelev etc. to make Leafs' roster before 2018/2019 season.

so Fransuck signed in Buffalo hunh?

hopefully they dont pair him with Carlo.. that would be a defensive juggernaut that would make the league tremble.

My guess for #jays playoff rotation, assuming they get there - Price, Richardey, Stroman, Estrada.

You know what?
I just read Garth's blog.....and I had to check twice to make sure it was Garth who wrote it. It actually wasn't bad, a little long winded and repetitive and this quote:

"I reached out to Franson's agent earlier this week to get a confirmation on the Franson to Buffalo rumors. I'm still waiting for a confirmation,"

made me snicker a bit. Other than that, it wasn't bad. Franson paired with Bogosian might be a solid d-pairing.
