He showed up game after game and couldn't produce. I think that was a detriment to the team. It's great and all he tried to man up, but halfway through the season when you are laying on your back on the floor because you can't sleep, it's time to be honest with the training staff and get better and allow someone healthy play. - funmaster18[/quote
Yeah it was a detriment to the team, but whats the outcome of last season if he did score say, 40pts... maybe we pick 10the or 11th instead of 7th. You gotta look at it as a blessing in disguise. Maybe we don't get provorov if umby was really effective Las year. We just have to look past a single unproductive season, and hope he comes back extra motivated

Who knows, if he bows out early in the season when he knows he can't play and someone else gets more time and provides a spark, things could have been different. I agree it likely wouldn't have changed anything, I just don't think we should be patting him on the back for hiding injuries from the team that clearly prevented him from playing well. |

It was nice to see that during halftime, someone actually bothered to inform the Eagles that preseason was over and this game actually counts.
How can you come out utterly flat in the season opener? Pathetic. - BiggE

I just don't get this "warrior attitude" stuff sometimes. If you can't skate you can't play. I don't care how tough a guy is if he can't produce. A veteran, like Umbereger, shouldn't be afraid to admit he's hurt. If players arent going to admit to injuries then isnt it up to the training staff to be more proactive? Everyone who saw Umberger play could see there was something wrong with him. Can't a trainer test a players strength and see he can't push off? Don't you order tests at that point? Get an MRI? If they see he's trying to gut it out thru an injury and is playing poorly, why not get it fix right then? - Dkos
It's a fear of losing your job. In sports, coaches are reluctant to move veterans down in the lineup if they're good people and consistently working hard. If a player sits out with an injury and the next guy up outplays him, then the coaches have a much easier decision. |

Did you guys see John Tavares comments about Ryan Pulock? Compares him to Shea Weber. |

I don't know about all of that, but if he's talking slapshot, then he has a point. Dude can crank one. |

“I don’t want to put any pressure on the kid, but he reminds me of Shea Weber,” Tavares said. “He’s a big kid, strong kid, and very mobile. He’s got tremendous poise with the puck. It’s not like he goes up to the point and pounds it. He knows when to shoot it and knows how to shoot it. When he does shoot it, it’s heavy and accurate.” |

an NFL kicker should be able to make a 44 yard FG in a Dome. With that said, I would have gone for it. Too much time left, Bryant is automatic and a TD would have forced Atl to score a TD |

It absolutey was a detriment to the team. I think it was absurd that he tried to play through that, and didn't let the team know how bad he was hurt. I just don't think he made excuses during the season for his play. |

Put differently, his fear of "making excuses" was a detriment to the team. |
