I'm not often to have Nucker's back but I'm with him here. Dane Fox was an Overage player on a stacked team who put up unrealistic point totals his final year, and it got him (an underrated player) a pro contract. What Nucker is saying (I think), is that in almost every case, when players turn pro their production numbers drop, usually significantly. A PPG player in the WHL ends up being a 0.5 PPG player in the AHL and a 0.25 PPG player in the NHL. So, picking a guy who put up close to 2.0 PPG in junior has a better chance of being a 1.0 PPG player in the NHL then a guy who put up 1.0 PPG in the WHL. We're talking over their junior career, not one season mind you.
Drafting for need makes no sense to me, when players from their draft year take 3-4 or even 5 years to make it to the NHL, you can't possibly know what you'll need in 5 years. You address what you need through FA and draft the best damn players you can. - 1970vintage
No, but the fact is the salary cap is likely to be static for quite a while so therefore stacking your prospects with the BPA and ignoring need is a bad move since hanging onto young players who you can control via RFA and rookie deals is going to be even more critical and impossible to get via trade.
I've said it earlier, in situations where the BPA isn't significantly better than the player who fits your need I take the need, otherwise if the BPA is significantly better then yes I take BPA no problems.
He's a long shot to ever play a game in the NHL, most likely a 3 or 4 year AHL face puncher for $60k per year. That's more then he would be making selling auto parts, so good on him! - 1970vintage
He just needs to be a good face puncher for two years and he will make his schmillion

I read plenty from people who've watched both play many games.
It's clear that anything anti-Canuck I'll say here is going to be written off so why continue this conversation? If someone made a good argument that made me really re-think my position besides using buzzwords I'd definitely be open to it.
Over at HF there was a poster who showed that JV's even strength production per 60 mins played was pretty strong but his PP production was lacking. - Nucker101
I watched Ehlers play in Halifax when I was visiting my brother.....super skilled and plays with an edge but even still is soft in the corners and lazy. Timo Meier looked like he carried that line to me. Not denying his skill but from watching him in person, he has boom or bust written all over him.....
Wanted: Babysitter for a Canuck blog thread on a Pennsylvanian base hockey rumour website. Must have experience with preschoolers who believe their opinions matter to the running of some billionaires hockey team. Pay.......................well, what do you think it's worth? - A_SteamingLombardi
But what else should we discuss on a hockey blog?
No offense to the crew here, but I mostly come here to talk puck and not just shoot the poop(that's what texting and social media is for).
They took a big kid that is tough , told him to fight , check and get rich
He can fight and he can skate well , that's what you want in your team goon - VANTEL
I will say that if you're going to have a tough guy then go all out and get a big one who can knock someone out. Dorsett doesn't scare anyone. I'd rather fight him than Kassian if I'm am an opposing player.

Did you see the fights this weekend? The kid is what 18?
Let's see him fill out get some boxing skills in the AHL . He will make his 600k in a few years.
You just don't go for a crap and there is a good checking fighter on your toilet seat.
He is Canucks next generation goon.
You are making way too much out of Canucks next 600 K face puncher. He fought some good heavyweights and did good. Nothing more.
The Seguin,/ball debate is no more. Seguin is considerably better. And they (the early 1st picks) have their share of the blame. There is more to the game them offense. Hall, Yaks and Ebs are all pathetic 2_way players - Bieksa#3
Some of that's on the team though, management and coaching. They gave these kids leadership roles on the team straight out of junior. They were treated like fully developed prospects before they had played an NHL game.
