Unconfirmed sources have confirmed that Darcy Regier was spotted at the airport greeting Olli Jokinen with contract in hand. After 7 years it appears they are ready to finally seal the deal.

It may have something to do with it, but if you actually read the article, he's very active in the community and is always doing charity work. - HonkFortheGoose
Pulling up to a kids street hockey game and asking if he can join is pretty cool. Not getting any tax advantages for that, just being an all around good guy.
With it being a public dispute and Wangs weirdo rule of not letting a player on the ice if he's not signed before training camp, i would say the islanders have little or no leverage when you're talking just him.
Someone should offer sheet him the day after camp starts just to make Wang look like more of a wang than he already is. - seedy
The question would be what was offered to Nelson ($$ wise) for him to accept the offer sheet, but still lose the least amount of draft picks, where Wang would not match. Interesting.
So in this range would only be a 2nd round pick, sounds good to me! $1,826,328 to $3,652,659

At his current $7 mil American it equals $9,224,635 Canadian.
He's losing money to his Agent and then over 53% in just federal and state tax.
A $1,428,571.43 donation a year the next 7 years alleviates some of his tax burden.

I never said he wasn't an all around good guy.
There is more to people of his pay scale donating money of that magnitude than just being an all around nice guy.
Does it play a nice part of it? Yeah it sure as hell does.
Does getting a nice tax write off play a bigger part of it? Most likely.

Thats what you hire a legit financial planner for! .....not some friends uncle whos "office" is in his basement. - seedy
Which he probably did and was told if you donate x amount over the next 7 years to a cause you believe in, you get to keep x amount more of your money.
He gets to look like the hero that he is and keeps more of the money he fought to earn.

Seriously? - Slump Buster
Yes.
Again I never said he isn't a generous guy that doesn't do a ton for his community but do you really think he doesn't have a financial planner telling him if you donate x you lessen your tax burden year to year?
Again when you are losing 54% of you money to federal and state tax you find ways to lessen that blow. If lessening that blow can be done by donating to something you believe in then good for him. I give him credit for doing what he believes in.
