- contrary to popular belief, most, and I stress most, NHL GM's know what they're doing more so than the internet GM's. - LeftCoaster
No doubt. And there's also the fact that even the most successful GMs have benefited from crazy luck. The Canucks have never been lucky.
Besides, if you weren't allowed to bltch and moan anonymously about the work of actual real people, the Internet would be a barren wasteland. |

Ya I kinda like that Benning cuts bait when he sees things not working. Bonino had 7 goals in the first 14 games and then 8 in the next 50+ games...that's not acceptable for a second line center. - LeftCoaster
You would have thought that having Higgins as his winger he would have accumulated allstar ststs. |

Centerman is suppose to be the engine that drives the offensive bus...just sayin...but yes your comment does hold some merit. |

If McCann or Cassels or someone else, maybe Gaunce, looks better than Vey as a fourth line center option do you think Benning would be willing to cut bait with him?
He's proven to NOT be adverse to change if he thinks whats there isn't working. - Lefty
I think Vey had a pretty successful rookie season. I don't see Benning giving up on him, but I could see them playing him on the wing instead. |

Yeah I guess the only part that really makes me mad is trading a 2nd round pick for a 3rd.

So here's a question: if the Leafs are rebuilding/tanking, why would they exchange so many prospects for Grabner? That organization is incapable of walking a straight line. |

Smart trade.
Toronto was at the limit for contracts at 50
all those prospects except for Finn suck.

I didn't know that. Maybe not so bad then. Now I like it even less. |

As for NYI, Isles had learned to live without Grabner while he was injured and he's being paid $5M this season on a $3M AAV. Major savings.

Leafs will potentially give him top 6 minutes plus special team time and flip him for a decent pick if he plays well.
Signing UFA's to short term contract or trading little to nothing for these guys and giving them decent minutes to flip them at the TDL is a nice strategy to rebuild. |

It's a win/win for both teams, Leafs get rid of four contracts and the Islanders get rid of some salary. |

We are excited to see where he (Grenier) is at; he scored some big goals down in Utica - Benning at Media Day #Canucks |

He was very good during the 2nd half and playoffs in the AHL. Hopefully he can pickup where he left off. |

Isles sign Steve Bernier, also love what they're doing. Their cap management and drafting(early and late rounds) has been impressive. Snow is an underrated GM. |

But he was called the biggest idiot in the league when he first started in the GM chair, things change. |
