So, basically, we have a 3rd pair Dman with a cap hit of 5 million, a 3rd/4th line winger with a cap hit of 4.6 million and a healthy scratch with a cap hit of 4.5 million.

Thanks for the positive responses guys. Also I'd like to point out that Nick Schultz cannot be our best defenseman this season. I don't think he can do it again, there for some other players need to pick up their play.

I don't claim to know anything about the bulk of our prospects, and have never seen Marti play outside of youtube videos. All I know is that he's 22, has put up very limited offensive numbers in his 3 seasons in NLA, was the 4th highest-scoring (and oldest) defenseman on a very good Armada team in his one QMJHL season with 14 points. Based on that, and from what I've read, I don't get what all of the hype is about. Someone who has watched him extensively, please let me know.

Looking at their contracts, those guys could be here next year too so add another 12 months.

If Umberger doesn't improve, I don't even view him or Vinny as NHL forwards. At least MacDonald is an NHL defenseman who can contribute when put in the right position.

With the number of defensive prospects on the way, Amac's contract really isn't a huge killer. They'll have so many guys on ELCs on defense within the next 2-3 years.

Let's get it done, can't wait. Unless an un-forseen trade is made, MacDonald is a lock to make the team. Go Flyers.

I think that both Streit and MDZ are better than he is. Schultz was the default "best defenseman" because he wasn't as atrocious as everyone else last season. He's a solid, unspectacular defenseman who generally will have little impact on the game either way. With Streit and MDZ, they'll have an impact, the only difference is which team will benefit from it.

I dont think he is getting a lot of hype. He is a defensive defensemen with pro experience and is almost fully physically developed at 22. I think he will end up being the 1st call up actually because he doesn't have the high ceilings of Morin, Gostisbehere or Hagg. He can come up and play 3rd pair minutes while I think Hextall would prefer the other 3 guys getting top minutes in the AHL instead of 12 in the NHL. Just my prediction.

I'd think that he'd be behind Manning (if sent down) and it would be either him or Alt as the next call-up. However, based on how things go this season, they could call up Ghost if one of MDZ/Streit go down and have Manning/Alt/Marti as possible call-ups for the others.
