There was no bulletproof hire, I think, because Babcock -- I just don't know that the Flyers had the kinds of pieces that made sense for him. To me, he needed to what he did: Go to a team that was rock-bottom, or to a team that is completely ready to win, like a St. Louis

I really am fine with someone like Hakstol coming in. If he can just teach some of these guys just a little bit more about how to maximize their abilities, you know?

Luke Schenn doesn't have to be a lost cause. He should be better than he is, right? Some of that is on him, sure. But maybe Schenn can be taught a bit more and be more effective

Maybe that's blind optimism. But I'd rather they have gone with a coach who should be able to teach, as opposed to a lifer who isn't as willing to work with young players

I'm close to writing L. Schenn off at this point. Think he is what he is. I wouldn't exactly say it's blind optimism, but I don't see him getting any better.
Where I'm hoping Hakstol can make a difference is with players like Couturier, B. Schenn, Laughton, all the young D men. That's where teaching can really play a big part in development.

Other notes:

Crazy fast pace. 5 on 0 goalie training. 5 in 5 scrimmage. Sprints I'm between drills. Schenn both st center and rw. They split veterans and ahl / prospects. Kind of unfair if we're banking in prospects making the team. They all practice at 1.

I'm at the end where they shoot once as well.

I've split most of my tickets up with the people I have been splitting with for 5 or so years, but I haven't tried to sell any of the games I've kept yet.

These past couple of years, they've gotten off to slow starts and it makes selling tickets kinda difficult, because casual fans mentally write the team off if you aren't talking about them as a contender in October/November.

If they start off well, I'll start getting the "do you have any Flyers tickets for sale" messages again. Haven't gotten those since the season they had Jagr.

The NHL and the Flyers haven't done their STH any resale favors. They got rid of the marketplace, made StubHub the "exclusive" place for resales, and the team has been offering tix at lower than STH prices to a number of games. It's part of the reason I cancelled after last year.

I agree. We have too many prospects in the pipeline to bring in a guy who doesn't know or want to teach and develop. The coach and the young guys can grow together and be something special in a few years.

Notable line from today's scrimmage umberger - vinny - Gagner
- Tfaehner

In a way I don't mind giving Vinnie a little bit of a chance for a "fresh start". But I'm a little disappointed that Schenn is dumped to RW on Laughton's line. Was hoping he'd get more of a legitimate chance.

I know it's only Day 1 of camp, but this might be what Hakstol's thinking as the team wants to get off to a strong start so I kinda see them jumping on potential combinations right away vs. a lot of tinkering.

They've gone another step further this year.

They printed the STH price on the tickets this year, rather than the retail face value of the ticket.

He's 6'5", so he probably carried 318 pounds differently than someone that's 5'9".

Luke Schenn has shown in the past that he can be a really, really good player. He was arguably their best player in 12/13 (tallest midget argument, maybe?) but he's had major struggles with consistency. If he can be that player again on a consistent basis, then he'd be a very good 2nd pair shutdown player.
- jmatchett383

He played with Kimmo for much of that season. He played well, but every D partner of Kimmo seems to play well.

He falls into the same category as many of the other defenseman. Not bad, but not really good enough for consistent top 4 minutes unless he's given a very good partner.

So a person who is 6'5" 318, looks different than a person who is 5'9" 318?

Yeah but does he see that as his third line ? Think of it as umberger.vinny Gagner being our 5th line and Laughton being the third. Maybe he is getting his shot

Exactly. My family usually keeps about half of the games and then sell the rest. A friend of the family usually takes about 5 when we give her our list before the season begins. But man, those other 15-20 have become a pain to sell at even less than STH cost.

I think I went to 8 games last year. And made almost my full cost back. This year if they're good and considering I'll go to Kimmo and Danny night just because might make 12 13 Games!

When I picked that Buffalo game, I picked it because I wanted to see Eichel play. That they later announced that they are honoring Briere that night is a bonus! IT'S ALL COMING UP MILHOUSE!

I bought my friends tix at STH cost ($80, front row 2nd level) for the Chicago/Kimmo game. Otherwise, I plan on scouring stubhub or CL a day or two prior to the game, I can probably get them at well below what I would have paid as a STH for all but the Rangers/Leafs/Penguins games.

None of the 3 have looked bad. None the 3 have looked top 6. Laughton I'd say has impressed me. Schenn looked okay during line work but 1 on 1 he got schooled by Manning and gudas.... yeah

That's pretty much how it's been going.

I always get good dough for Rangers/Leafs/Penguins games.....and actually, you can throw the Wings in that group too. I've never had trouble selling off a game they are playing the Wings. Lots of Wings fans in the area for some weird reason.
