SO he's just haphazardly throwing players together now? Even if they split squads, I'd think that Hakstal would like to keep the lines close to what they may be come the regular season. If you have too many RW/LW on the roster, then someone has to move. - jmatchett383
There's nothing haphazard about having Laughton at center and BSchenn at RW. Neither BSchenn or Vinny like playing LW so I'm glad Hakstol hasn't already tried to shoehorn them in there.
It's literally the first day Hakstol has coached the full Flyers team on the ice and you guys are already throwing out nonsensical criticisms. |

Morin is only 2 inches shorter than Chara. He must be able to do at least 80 considering he's much lighter, and younger. - PLindbergh31
He can't grow Chara's man beard yet. The beard gives you superhuman strength. |

Not at all. If he's playing players at the positions he expects them to play during the season, then I'd expect he'd play them with linemates (plural, not singular) that he expects them to play with during the season as well. If he thinks that Schenn is one of the top-4 RWs on the team, then I'd expect him to play with a top-4 LW as well.
Otherwise, why even both keeping Raffl, Voracek, and Giroux together if the full line combos aren't important?
Edit: Yes, I can see Laughton centering Schenn, but I think that one of Gagner/Umberger have a more realistic chance of playing LW with them than Porter, so why not keep them together to start? |

Hakstol is an experienced hockey coach who I'm sure has put a lot of thought into how he was going to approach camp. We may not be able to explain his reasoning, but I doubt it's just being haphazardly thrown together |

The lines will get closer to how they will look in the regular season as the preseason wears on. Just like every year. Who BSchenn is playing with isn't as important as the position he's playing in my opinion. |

I agree it's not as important. At the same time, they probably wouldn't tinker with Giroux playing with Rosehill and Parks even if the positions line up, so I think it's still somewhat important.
Or, maybe he thinks Porter has a legit chance to start in the NHL. Stranger things have happened. |

I like that they sent him a message and sent him back to his junior team and didn't just send him "home" for the day. Camp is over for him. |

Definitely a firm statement. I guess they're looking at the long-term here. |

Asked whether he was sending a message back to Hakstol for his pairing with Manning — Radko Gudas worked with Andrew MacDonald — Schenn waved it off.
“To be honest, I could care less,” he said. “It’s not how you start, it’s how you finish. Perfect example is last year. Schultzie [Nick Schultz] was a scratch first game of year and turned into our most consistent defenseman.
“Day 1 you don’t want to read into it too much. Mad Dog had a heck of a finish last year and I was real comfortable with him today.” |

It doesn't have to be one or the other -- Schenn is one of those players who might need both
We all recognize it's Day 1. But saying that who plays with who isn't at all important is not true, because if Couturier was playing with two people with hands of stone, I'd be questioning the same thing
All we've heard is how practice is important, a good start is important. So yeah, having Brayden Schenn playing with a winger who is likely ticketed for Lehigh Valley is something to talk about, because Game 1's points matter just as much as Game 82s
Having Schenn as a RW is fine. If that's what they want to do, fine. I don't care what position he plays. I care about him getting repetitions with who he is likely to play with, so we don't get into Game 6, he still hasn't scored, and somebody trots out "well, you know, they didn't practice as a line in camp, so..."
