Yea, no way he makes the team this year. I liked what I saw from Medvedev. - ClaudeFather
I really liked what I saw. I think he will go a long way in improving the defense. By midseason I wouldn't be surprised to see him get top pairing minutes.

On Konecny
It's funny that Jonesy said it reminds him of the Simon Gagne decision in 99. That thought entered my mind. It's tough to send a guy that makes things happen so often back when we have a few wingers that disappear for long stretches. I hope he gets a look with NHL caliber guys.
It's gotta be tempting for hexy, although there is plenty of camp left. - Richard_wilderness
Yup. It's extremely tempting. Konecny and Provorov show you how close they are. Another year in juniors won't hurt them, but I think if you keep them here, they can still improve and thrive. |

He has earned it. He's better than Vinny and Umberger.

Thanks Bill. Wow, how much a summer break makes for our team. Our team is more mobile than last season, and can actually make passes tape to tape. In addition, Simmer was a beast in getting back into his own zone, and helping out the D. I like what I see so far. Furthermore, what is up with Rosehill? He looked controlled, and can actually skate.
Is this the Twilight Zone or is this what we can expect during the regular season?
Ghost got off to a slow start last night, but had a good third period. I was starting to wonder about him.
Konecny continues to impress. Gagner looks like he is starting to feel comfortable with his new team.
Warm fuzzies all around, but the East looks like it's going to be tough this season. Numerous teams have improved, and the Flyers will have their work cut out for them. Thus, they will have to bring their "A" game every night. |

Yeah, I was thinking of this and the decision to keep Justin Williams up after he was drafted. I think it might be more doable for a forward to make the jump than say Provy (although I'd love to see him legit earn a spot). I haven't watched a lot of the first two games, but from what I did see and from what I've heard.. he's been solid.. |

I really would not be surprised at all by this, based on the limited playing time I've seen so far. |

I think you will see more teams moving to an attacking offense that will have a 3rd line that brings more offense than the traditional shutdown line. Maybe not 60 points from your 3C, because there will not be enough PP time to go around, but the capability of reaching 60 points.
Playing Devil's advocate, rate the following groups of Centers in TWO years. There obviously is a little projection you have to do here.
Edmonton - McDavid, RNH, Draisatl
Buffalo - Eichel, ROR, Reinhart
Flyers - G, Couturier, Laughton

Really disagree. Laughton played 31 games last year and had a whopping 6 points. That's SIX points. Telling that Cousins got the call-up at the end of last year instead of Laughton. He really needs to develop offense if he is going to be anything more than a 4C. He won't do that in the NHL. - TheGreat28
Also telling that Cousins had zero points in 11 games. |

Cousins has been mentioned much, but I also thought he looked pretty good last night. |

Just because they use those three now doesn't mean those are their top 3 centers for the next 5 years. |

It was kind of funny because Gagne was drafted in 98 after a 69 point season, and they sent him back to Junior and he racked up 120 points. Ideally that's what will happen with Konecny who had 68 points last year. |

True. I personally don't think either one is the answer. As much as I defend Schenn, more so to counterbalance those who are overly critical against him, I don't think he is the answer. I still think the team will need to upgrade at 2C in the next couple of years. Principally why I wanted Barzal. |
