To me, as the victims "lawyer"(not sure why a victim needs a lawyer) the only point to the press conference would be to call out Frank Sedita and the EC DA's office for not yet arresting and charging Kane and pursuing justice in this rape they insist occurred. Well the victim could want a lawyer to help her remain anonymous and help guide her in the process. Not going to lie, if something like that happened to me getting a lawyer would be on my short list of things to do.

He announced that the rape kit performed on the woman was anonymously delivered to the front door of her mother's home on Tuesday. Attorney Thomas J. Eaonnou has issued for an independent police review to investigate the possible tampering of the evidence. The FBI or state police may be brought in as well. Eaonnou suggested that a good Samaritan may have come forward to show that the evidence had been tampered with. Just because the DNA from the kit may have been compromised, it doesn't mean that the case won't go to trial. It just means that photos, testimony and rape kit notes move to the forefront. The case is still ongoing, but Eaonnou wouldn't comment on whether he thinks Kane will be charged.

Also it protects her from the nutjobs that swear on their lives that kane is innocent and could try scare tactics to stop the case. A lawyer in this situation is actually really smart.

The DA will still be actually taking the case, but the lawyer is needed.

Forgive me because I think you're biased by "inside" knowledge, but what today showed is a lawyer being upset that this evidence was somehow removed from the lab it was supposed to be processed in and calling attention to it. If anything, it leans more to less of a case against Kane than anything as the prosecution now would have to fight tampering allegations
