all those guys could fetch late round picks if they have halfway decent seasons
- Dozzer

As long as we agree that they will be "late" picks.

not this time

they hired dubais and hunter for a reason

the old boys club are there to provide mentorship.. not necessarily direction

- Dozzer

Who they hire means nothing when the playoff bite infects.
We've heard this song and dance before.

We'll see where they are in the standings

With Nylander playing in the AHL, does that mean that years of his pro contract are being burned while he's there? if so, wouldn't it be better to have him up with the big club if he's READY and reap the benefits of having Babcock as a coach.

Oh for eff's sakes, AA - take off the blue-coloured glasses and quit chugging the Kool-aid.

Marner is a bust! Busty McBusterson.

How many more chances are you going to give this stiff?

I'm sick of Leafs apologists like you defending every piece of garbage on this club.

- Atomic Wedgie

sorry sir....

Im always right tho.

they (again ShanaLuoCock) should consider taking on more prospects rather than purely draft picks.... when moving the PTOs/upcoming FAs at the tradedeadline

the thinking here is perhaps a slow developing guy on another club who they may have knowledge of from their junior days... like they did with Leipsic.

on that theme it will be interesting to see if Freakerenko turns his career around with the Avs... seemed to have worn out the welcome in Buffalo.

i like the idea of building the core from scratch

just keep icing teams who try hard but dont have the talent.. and graduate the new core in the next 3 or 4 years when they are actually ready

Not a heckuva lot of quality players about to be UFAs:

Grabner
Matthias
Spaling
Parenteau
Arcobello
Frattin

Polak

Reimer

Grabner and Matthias might get you something.

Polak might get you a ham sandwich.

Goalies traditionally get you nothing at the TDL.

Maybe we sign a PTO or two, but I don't see any of them getting much in return.

- Atomic Wedgie

one things for sure ... Arcobello won't get much... based on last nights contributions... he should be glad he has a contract.

I think everyone is looking into this too much... after only 1 game playing with Nylander we really have no clue where he is at in his development. I don't believe size is as big of an issue as people make it, you just need to be strong. I think they would be stupid to send Nylander back to the Marlies and I think they won't.
- Arctic_AARDVARK

Same thing happens every year. Some leaf prospect has a good game against scrubs and some people want them in a leaf uni.

The youngsters will most like not be on the leafs. Nylander may see a few games if that

100 year anniversary of the Leafs next year.

The pressure to ice a respectable team scares the crap out of me.

clearly not going to get Core talent picking up other teams disappointing prospects... but perhaps a mid-range talent along the lines of a Winnick or Matthias ... versatile, something to prove.

definitely the core guys should be "home grown"...

There is a lot of IFs, but:

If Grabner scores 30, he could get a good pick
If one of Matthias, Spaling, Parenteau, Boyes are hard workers who put up some points (ala Santorelli), they could be packaged with Polak for a 1st and a Prospect.

Then the remaining Glencorss, Matthias, Spaling, Parenteau, Boyes could hopefully be traded for 3rds, depth prospects, trade up some spots etc.

curious about grabner tho

if he gets some top 6 mins and PP time and has a bounce back season due to it.. the leafs might be able to franson him off at the deadline

Nylander just looks ready. He's proven it. He's jumped through every hoop with ease. He's strong enough, mature enough, and pretty enough. Just think of how much money the leafs will make with a Nylander billboard on the Gardiner expressway..

how can you say he looks ready when he has never even played one game against a full NHL roster?

Can I assume the definition of "fransoning him off" means overinflating his value, and trading him to a sucker?

I find it hilarious... and its the media .... they are getting NOTHING out of ShanaLouCock in terms of rumors or info... Dreger's so out of it these days it hurts...

rest assured until Stamkos signs (which he will) that about once a week one of the doinks is going to bring it up

The City of Toronto will toll the Gardiner expressway, women will drive on it more just to see the billboard, and the repairs to the Gardiner will be paid off in 4 years!

And that is another one taking a spot away from younger players even in pre season, I would rather see someone like Leivo get his minutes, it's a wasted roster spot.

For all those who missed it, seems like some have, the management did in fact say, if the younger players out perform the PTO's or older signed players, they will get their chance on the roster. If they are full of BS then nothing has truly changed.
