Could they send Marner to play with Austin in the swiss league?
- zazzle

Don't think so. Th transfer agreement doesn't allow him to go anywhere but nhl or ohl.

Mathews not an chl guy so Downey fall under same rules.

So what do you think Luke Schenn's realistic trade value would be today?

Exactly.
the Leafs didnt ruin Schenn.....they simply overvalued him.
He was and is just a meh player.

Not just internally - remember the gobble-feast on TSN when they drafted him??

I liked Luke Schenn, and think he was a good player. I think if anything, the trade out of Toronto has slowed his development. He seemed to be growing each year in Toronto....and I'd say if he had any bad showings...it was mostly because of his coaching, and the players around him. I think he'd be the perfect pairing partner for Phaneuf....or Reilly, or Gardiner....I guess we could kind of use him now.

Its better to start Nylander in the AHL and bring him up if he's deserving mid-season or even early season rather than start him at the NHL and ruin his confidence by sending him down if he's not there yet
- twiztedmike

I believe this to be the case.

agreed.. but unless he plays 20 games in the NHL then its not eating into his RFA years
- Dozzer

Right, but he mention elc.

So many year of nhl service (is it 7 years I think?) or 27 year old which ever come first.

I couldn't really say, but I would imagine he'd have to sign a contract to play in Europe.
Besides, Matthews will likely be NHL bound next season, depending on where he's drafted of course.

There's a reason why so many of our contracts are only 1 or 2 years in length.

I think Brown is closer than Nylander to step up in the NHL right now. Better 2way game and keeps things simple. Plus, there's room for wingers.. Centre position is occupied with NHLers already. Without a trade or injury (on the top 2 line, else it would be stupid), Nylander has no chance...

That being said, not saying Brown is better than Nylander!..

Either way, both should be starting on the Marlies this season. I think they'll both have chances during the season though. They can go up and down without waiver so it's a plus.

When was the last time the Leafs had a 19 year old amongst the AHL scoring leaders - never? It's going to be awesome, and he might be bringing guys like Kapanen and Brown up with him next year. To a team that's already comfortable with Babcock's systems and team culture.
