Updated my original post but yes hate him bc h discredits the Avs, Roy bc they dont follow his advance stats circle jerk lifestyle. But hes such a hypocrite. Uses stats to prove his points he wants to make but ignores stats when its against him.
But as a Sens fan he doesnt say a peep abotu them making it into the playoffs on Hammonds ridiculous hot streak of a .940 save percentage. But since Karlsson is a corsi god he just pumps that story line instead.
You cant have it both way Yost. Rip your own sens for fluking out into the playfofs |

It's not like they were giving him away. it's an 18 year old phenom for a proven star, at the very least you'd have to consider it. Don't really know what else was being discussed though. I doubt it was a straight 1 for 1. - Sabresfan-365
Eh, ya would have to listen for sure...99.9% its' no way given the anticipation I have had the last 2 years for him and Reinhart up the middle for a decade...and continue building through the draft for another year or two. It would have had to knock my socks off, and this is how I understand GMTM is as well...could be wrong though.

Good God no!
I'm looking forward to watching this kid for 15 years...they best not trade him.
I have heard other reports on calls to Sabres about Eichel...and the Sabres response was no way.
I am so looking forward to this season - IonSabres
I like that other players, Suter primarily so far, are coming out and saying that he's the real deal. That's definitely reassuring. They have nothing to gain by saying that. Once Jack is comfortable in the NHL, it's going to be scary. |

I've seen him be critical of the sens on more than a few occasions. Ryan trade, Greening contract....anything Jared Cowen related. |

Anything that has to do with Karlsson, he will turn a blind eye too. He loves Methot and gives him all the praise in the world bc he compliments his boy.
Sorry but you dont go and rip the EJ deal, saying paying a guy 6m a year till hes 34 bc hes injury prone is a bad contract but when the sens are paying method 5m until he is 34 who has missed more time from injuries than EJ a good deal bc of what he brings to the table.
I cant take the guy seriously, he still has sens homer takes if it has anything to do with the players he likes and are good to his cause of anayltics rule hockey |

My biggest problem with analytics based writing or blogging is the fact that it has become so predictable and boring.
A lot of the information out there is amazing, and is very helpful. But it has actually narrowed the minds of many as opposed to opening them.
I always use Jake Gardiner as an example. He is brutal at decision making. He admits it, his past 3 coaches have seen it, and everyone in the world can watching him. However he will vehemently be defended because of his good possession metrics.
So no matter what bonehead decision Jake Gardiner makes, he will be considered a good player or defended by people like Yost.
Dan Girardi has awful metrics, so when he makes a boneheaded play, somehow that highlight or isolated incident becomes relevant because they have deemed him as an inferior player
It's the same thing when discussing contracts. It was not hard to predict what every...single... writer like Yost was going to say about Brandon Sutter. Literally....no differing opinion or context. It's boring |

Yost handy work right here saying the same thing about Gardiner
"They’re in possession of monstrously underrated defenders in T.J. Brodie and Jake Gardiner, respectively. Again, I think this speaks to how defencemen can be effective in myriad ways. Brodie and Gardiner are giving up 40 pounds to a similarly-strong defender in Methot, and yet they’re able to shut the door to these quality chance areas in the same manner."
Sorry but you arent building cores around Gardiner

When guys go so far down t he rabbit hole with how metrics are all defining, they have no other choice but to go against 90% precieved logic of player evaulations. Petro Weber etc are all over rated to them, but guys like Muzzin and Gardiner are worth their weight in gold.
Sorry but I am taking Petro to be the anchor of my core over Jake the Snake Gardiner. And once you get into taht, they bring up their cap hits....would your team be better off with 4m in Gardiner, other assets, and cap space instead of 7m in Petro.
No still better with 7m in Petro. |

The problem is that these guys that are into advanced stats think the stats are a be all end all, and they're not. They're only half the story. You have to actually watch the game to get the whole story. For all we know, the reason that Gardiner has good possession stats is because of the rest of the guys on the ice with him, such as his defense partner.
Just my opinion of course. |

Prime example of these guys drinking their own kool aid and looking silly afterwards is parenteau. How could a bad possession team trade away a solid possession player in pap. Well he sucks that's why. Finally after a year In Montreal they see he isn't a solid forward to have on your team moving forward.
I agree it's a team sport and some times players and coaches have value to the team that just can't be put into a spread sheet.
Be hockey guys still. This isn't money ball and Brad Pitt isn't going to play you in a movie once you crack the code to graph your way to the cup |

Statistics do nothing to address cap hit either. Just look at the Rumblings of Patrick Kane being traded....it he great? absolutely. Will he take up 10% of your cap? Absolutely. Now, some people will tell you he's a winning machine and they'll take that cap hit. But the reality is, there's only a handful of teams that could even take on that salary. Or, the others have to dump half the team to take it on. And then what happens if he gets hurt? He's a stat guys wet dream until he's not playing due to injury.
Stat guys look at one aspect of the game. Besides actually watching hockey, im always impressed by GM's who are cap savvy and put money on solid pieces and are willing to constantly rotate their bottom 6, 5/6/7 D men with a good stockpile in their AHL club.

Reality is Chicago would be cupeless without Patrick Kane. Hopefully we have the Toews/Kane/Keith with Eichel/Reinhart/Risto. With Kane/RoR being are Sharp/Hossa. |
