Tell that to the people who believe prospect need to be developed in the NHL and then get mad when they aren't top line material or top pairing Dmen by 20 years of age.

I like the idea of them growing together. They'll be friends hopefully and will have far more chemistry as a Leaf.

people like to point out examples of success stories

skinner? great first year, got hurt, didnt have the experience to know how to come back from an injury, set him back

remember the mess that was Joe Thornton on the Bs?

people need to remember, not every prospect is Crosby/Malkin/McDavid/Ovie calibre. the people who should be placed into the top league in the world at 18-19 years of age are very few and far between.

there is more to growing up than lifting weights and hockey skill. mental and emotional stability is a huge part of being an adult. for instance.. when things are going great for Nylander everything is hunky dorey... what happens when he slumps? what if he isnt mature enough to deal with the internal disappointment of it? what happens then? he plays poorly, gets discouraged, and sets back his development, or even worse, mars it for good.

not all of us are saying fast track, especially not for the sake of it. We're basing some of our suggestions based on what other teams do with say top 4 picks or their nylanders. in the end it comes down to individual players and situations. So far, its become clear marner should go back to the o. As for nylander, i would like to see how he performs in future preseason games now that opposing teams are going to be icing better, more nhl like lineups. if nylander still sticks out then as one of the best players on the ice, and babcock likes what he sees and keeps him so be it.

Big part of Skinner's thing was that during his first season he was absolutely fearless. He beat guys one-on-one and went hard to the net. Then he got hurt and he seemed to play scared for a while. Once he started to get to himself, Kirk Muller threw the reins on him and it was a catastrophe. He's been mostly healthy for 3 years now, and he's trying to get his confidence back, but it's hard.

Pretty rare a 1st overall doesn't play right away.

But plenty of top 5 guys get sent down for these reasons

Head coach Mike Babcock has praised the play of Nylander of late, but he is clear there is no rush to crack the big club.

“You see if they’re ready. You see if they’re ready defensively, see if they’re ready offensively — just watch to see if they are ready. We want our guys over-ready,” Babcock said.

they are Marlie bound.. and I am very pleased about that. this article was posted at 11pm last night.. its the most current statement about it from Babcock

I still think the Oil should trade Leon to the Leafs because they were Richards and didn't let him play in the World Juniors.

that was two days ago

i know this comment.. he wont make it.. offensively he is there.. but his decision making without the puck still needs quite a bit of work

top 6 this year(to start anyways)

JVR Kadri Lupul
Parenteau Bozak Grabner

not necessarily those lines.. but thats my guess for top 6 in game 1

its not about being right dude, as i said, hes looked great so far, but now the lineups are going to be more pro like. the direct quote from the coach only says nylander has to do a lot to convince him. Fact is hes still here, in camp. nothing has been decided.
