that's not a worry... by that time the Rangers and Kings will suck... and they'll pick up old guys just like they always have.... besides by that time Stamkos would have won his cup or not... and will be looking to map out his retirement - which will likely be a in a warm weather location. - BorjeFan4Ever
well... its going to be interesting
if TB cant sign him they will look to move him.. and the team aquiring him will likely only do so based on a sign and trade
i dont know if it would be wise for the leafs to basically clean house propsect and pick wise for stamkos..i'm guessing he goes to a team closer to competing for the cup than the leafs

here's the thing about stamkos i dont necessarily like
he is signing for at least 7 years, possibly 8
that contract will take him into his mid to late 30s
by that time he will have slowed down and you will be paying him a fortune for what he used to be - Dozzer
but.....but........
just one cup and it'll all be worth it, plus after an 8 year contract he'll only be 34 |

If he really wants to be a Leaf, there won't be a sign and trade |

i think all of us need to let go of the burke nonis era prospects
what they looked for in a player is nothing like what the current group seems to like
i expect to see a lot of prospect movement after this camp.. for other prospects / picks, etc as the current group begins their work at molding the leafs to suit their vision
after this camp.. thats when the fun will start - Dozzer
what if i dont want to let go of connor brown, rinat valiev, willie nylander, andreas johnson, morgan rielly, stuart percy? |

I said if HE really wants to be a Leaf, i really have no clue what his intentions are, but the Molson rep tells me he does |

No sense trying to dissect every quote.
Babs said a while ago, no decisions will be made until the end of camp.....Nylander will play some games for the leafs...but will most likely (as we all predicted) be with the marlies
Cause as we've seen the AHL has magical powers to make our leafs prospects great. |

Just like Babs wont sign here
Clarkson brings intangibles and is worth signing.
Clarkson's contract will never be traded.

nylander i place under the shanny era too btw
i think its safe to say that the new management will assess, and keep who they want and move the rest out |

he will be 26 when his new contract kicks in. assuming 8 years, he'll be 33 going into the final year of his deal. at 33, even if he declines, he's still going to be a very good player. and he'll be earning what was top dollar 7 years earlier. IMO, the age of 24-25-26 is the absolute best time to lock guys up for 7-8 years. you're paying for their prime years. if you do it earlier, then you find yourself in situations like Kesler and Giordano, having to sign guys into their 30s to huge long term deals that will span their declining years. i see zero risk giving Stamkos that term. |

not all of us are saying fast track, especially not for the sake of it. We're basing some of our suggestions based on what other teams do with say top 4 picks or their nylanders. in the end it comes down to individual players and situations. So far, its become clear marner should go back to the o. As for nylander, i would like to see how he performs in future preseason games now that opposing teams are going to be icing better, more nhl like lineups. if nylander still sticks out then as one of the best players on the ice, and babcock likes what he sees and keeps him so be it. - mykokes
I'm late as I went for lunch
I can see your point. My only concern with it is can he keep up the level of play over 82 games? It's pretty easy for a kid to reach his dream of the NHL and play great in those first 9 NHL games and look great. Other teams are sorting out their issues too and when they do things change.
That's where Dozzer's point comes in. Can a top prospect handle that adversity and bounce back? Can they keep doing all those little things right over 82 games? Can they handle that spotlight?
I'd rather see them go to the minors where there's less of that and where people's expectations are development in 20+ minutes a game in key situations. |

ya i just think it's a much easier decision at 25-26 than it is at 29-30. |

I agree with this in principle... but I would like to see guys like Leivo (even though I know he's a previous regime prospect) playing in the NHL rather than AHL. I'd rather see him than Arcobello or Spalling for example.
And the Marlies definitely need a couple of heavyweights on the roster... to ensure that they don't go "run" by other teams. - BorjeFan4Ever
Leivo dosnt deserve to play in the NHL. Hes gonna be shipped out next, he takes one step forward and then two backwards
Marlies have Clune |
