I like those jeans, reminds me of an old couch my grandparents use to have in the basement when I was younger.

Sorry, Walshy, but this is classic Toronto fan disease.

For eff's sakes, Damien effing Cox himself says that Kessel was the fittest Leaf at training camp last year. But the narrative won't die: apparently Kessel is a guy who doesn't care, doesn't work out in the offseason, eats a hot dog a day.

It's true because he is an elite player, right?

While guys like us wake up every morning and go to the plant, to put in an 8-hour shift, and Kessel just dogs it out there. Ungrateful chump. Does he know what I would do to play in the NHL? I tells ya, I'd backcheck for sure.

Blah blah blah.

Kessel's unwillingness to backcheck has been completely blown out of proportion by Leafs Nation.

Did he dog it in the final 20 games of the season? Hell yes - the entire team did.

Guess what? We wanted the entire team to dog it. Management wanted the team to dog it. The season was over. They sold off a few spare parts, fired the coach, hired a guy who couldn't coach his way out of a paper bag, tried to institute a new system in February, and looked the other way when it inevitably, purposely fell apart.

JVR hustles 62.87% less than Kessel.

Bozak is an effing joke. Anyone who has watched a game live realizes this by about midway through the 2nd period.

But hey, Leafs Nation should rejoice - we just gave away the best forward of the 2014 Olympics for a handful of dog poop, and we managed to retain salary.

Everyone should give themselves a giant pat on the back - we sure showed Kessel, didn't we? He may make $8 million dollars and be Olympic MVP, but we know how to play hockey waaaaaaaay better than him, don't we? WE ARE LEAFS NATION!

Can't wait to ship out Dion Phaneuf. Invited to Team Canada summer camp. Plays 27 minutes a night. Every guy he's played with in Toronto has gone on to be bounced out of the league or exposed as a 5-6 defenceman.

But we don't like him either. He makes too much money! Do you know how hard I work every day at the plant? And effing Phaneuf didn't win us a Stanley Cup last year - that's on the captain!

It's the bitter working class hero crap that unites us all.

Yes because I said "crippled"
Its a stupid cap hit...taken on in a bad trade.

These little cap hits, get in the way of making deals when it counts sometimes.

we dont care for the next 3 years sure.....but if we become a good team and pressed against the cap......that 1.2 could be of use come the deadline.

Or it may not.

But it definitely wouldnt if it wasnt there.

- Fakepartofme

if they follow the plan to build with the kids.. cap issues wont be a problem in 3 years.. the bozak and lupul and polak and robidas contracts will be gone for instance

the gleason buyout will be off the books.. and keep in mind horton's cap hit can come off the books whenever necessary being LTIR

I don't see it being an actual issue. We become like Chicago and trade away a Saad for some pieces?

In short, because I'm leaving to go home (I make a more detailed response later) for 8 mil a year I want more of a complete player. Now the fact he got 8 mil a year isn't down to him, but, I would've thought/hoped he felt some responsibility in providing a more concerted effort to at least give off the perception that he was actually willing to hustle.

Bozak I agree with and the same with JVR. I hope he changes but doubt it. I can stomach JVR attitude vs salary a lot more than Kessel's. Having said that, I'd be surprised if JVR lasts longer than his current contract under Shanny/Mike

- walshyleafsfan

First, sorry for the response to a post that is from 45 minutes ago but the bold part is what infuriates me about Leafs nation. if the contract is reasonable, we can accept horrible efforts, but as soon as the contract goes up we expect the player to change into something they never were, and never will be.

Kessel was and always will be a great support winger who is a world elite sniper. He got paid for that, as that is the market value for that skill set. Just because his contract paid him for his skill set, doesn't at all mean he has to now turn into a Selke candidate.

JVR shut it down the same time as the rest of the baffoons, ( Kessel obviously wasn't worth the $8m as we couldn't trade him at that salary )but I'm not sure why we traded anybody - I thought most in here said it was Carlyles fault?

Every day theirs a new excuse for certain players

I still like NHLNumbers.com

Doesn't have all the bells and whistles that capgeek and the others have, but I don't really geek out enough to need to calculate exact cap hits on buyouts, etc.

NHLNumbers.com gives me what I need: how long a guy's contract is for, what he gets paid every year, what his cap hit is, and team totals.

And they do it in a pretty simple, graphic format.

It's all I need.

An effing classic case of Leafs Nation lunch bucket worship.

The guy did one thing above average: take faceoffs. He wasn't even particularly wonderful at it -really just above average.

But oh boy did we love him. We loved him to death.

Until we replaced him the next year with McClement, who was fbetter at faceoffs, cheaper and better.

Of course, McClement still wasn't a good player...
