Teams have been doing split squad like this for years. Actually, I'm encouraged by this. Not that there was any doubt about his roster spot to begin with, but the fact that they are barely playing him at all tells me they see no point in overplaying him in the preseason, which is good as far as injuries are concerned.

This was my thought as well. They're probably trying to make sure he doesn't end up with some nagging injury or even worse before the regular season actually gets underway.
