No love for Babych's stache
Speaking of former Canucks defencemen I was surprised to see Doug Bodger as an alum at hockeyville...what was he a Canuck for 2 months? - stevekariya
I thought of Babych too.
Not sure if you could include Rinehart either, only 2 seasons here at the end of his career, but he was good. |

The only problem with this is you have to take the good with the bad. Sometimes the bad isn't the players fault, playing hurt and nobody else ready to step in.
But you do realize Aucoin had 23 goals in one of his seasons here... - hillbillydeluxe
You're right. He had one good season. Lots of PP goals. But that was about it. I don't think Bieksa should make the list either, but neither should Aucoin, let alone place 6th all time best defenseman. |

I wonder what sort of fantasy impact he'll have (if any) this upcoming term - other than hits and PIM's. Apparently he was playing on a line with Johnny Gaudreau and Sean Monohan at camp but we'll see if that translates to any of the exhibition games and more importantly, the opening night roster.
He could be a nice little 'sleeper' candidate when all is said and done |

Kevin Bieksa was 6th all time in Canucks scoring for Defensemen, as well as 6th for playoff scoring for D-men. 4th all time in PIM for D.
He was a leader. He was a warrior. He protected his teammates. He scored big goals. He battled in front of the net. He dropped the gloves when needed. He did everything this franchise asked of him.
Typical that the fan base forgets. I guess in a decade everyone will remember him for the player he was over the course of his career here, and not just for having a bad 2014-15 season. |

Maybe...I don't buy it though. Screams career bottom 6 player to me. Tom Wilson 2.0 is probably his upside, more valuable in real life than in fantasy. |

One good season???
He broke 10 goals or better 6 times. He had several good seasons on bad teams.

He's definitely underrated here because of how he sucked the last couple of years. I haven't been a fan for long enough to comment on any all-time lists though so I'm not sure if he belongs. I would definitely take Jovo Cop and Ohlund over him, but that's just me. |

Bieksa wasnt much of a protector. He sat there and watched too many players get run, elbowed or chopped but if someone skated by him and gave him a little slash it was on... and on in the next game and so on. Bieksa was far more selfish than his fans will ever admitt.
His leadership was pretty iffy. How many times did he do stuff that was about Bieksa and not about winning in the playoffs... way too many times... even this last exit, he was shooting his mouth off about Ferland... same poop Bieksa did in every series in 2011... it's more important for him to be Rodney Dangerfield and crack off about the opposition than keeping his mouth shut and leading by example.
Bieksa will always get tons of credit for things he was poor at. People are shallow enough not to see past his self centered fights.

He had some good seasons and some where he was less effective. Sometimes he protected his team mates, sometimes he didn't. Don't know how often he was hurt, but I am guessing he played through some nagging injuries.
He had a good career.
I guess I had hoped the 10 best Canucks would have better calibre of dmen. Just like retiring numbers to the rafters or Canucks in the hof. It would be nice if it was this dman led the team to a cup or something. |

Shouldn't be one mans job to protect the team IMO. Team toughness should be a group |
