Shouldn't be one mans job to protect the team IMO. Team toughness should be a group - VANTEL
True... but I think what I and some are saying is he gets credit for protecting... when he rarely fought for anyone but himself.

He's definitely underrated here because of how he sucked the last couple of years. I haven't been a fan for long enough to comment on any all-time lists though so I'm not sure if he belongs. I would definitely take Jovo Cop and Ohlund over him, but that's just me. - Nucker101
I think anyone would take Jovo at his best over Bieksa. But in Vancouver he only had 3 really good seasons and 2 good half seasons (due to injury). Not enough time to climb higher. |

This. But Booner raises some fair points. - Nucker101
Jovo Mitchell Ohlund Bert always team toughness.
That is one of my biggest critiques of this team this decade. They don't stand up for each other aside from Burrows Hamhuis and Dorsett( last year) |

I wasn't pointing at you , I was making a general statement. It was Nucker who dragged you in.
I think KB was over rated for toughness. He picked his spots.
Guys like Hamhuis and Burrows stand up for everyone all the time |

That was more a coaching and management decision for a few years though. They were specifically instructed by AV and Gillis to let the PP do the protecting. |

I often wonder why I am the only person who has frowned on Bieksa beating up a team mate in public over being drunk and mouthy to him. How fkn self centered is that? It is petty and taking an opportunity to show off at a drunk team mates expense.
Federov probably deserved a punch in the mouth but you don't do that in front of local fans at a bar.
Before Bieksa was even in the NHL I was wondering what kind of selfish wiener he was... |

True. But he was good in the locker room, and I don't believe effort was ever an issue with him. He was prone to mental lapses, but the he went all out, especially in bigger games. |

You need to consider weight class when judging toughness too. He wasn't a heavyweight. |

Yeah, longevity favours Bieksa for sure. |

I seen Edler and Ehrhoff turn in fear that wasn't coaching, that was being afraid |

Yeah, I found it funny that people criticized him for not fighting goons. |

Burrows' fight card isn't exactly full of tough guys, but I do agree that he's more willing to step in for a teammate, especially a young player.
Bieksa did step in for Lain during that brawl though, right? |

I don't know if it was all AV or the influence of the Sedins, turning the other cheek sort of stuff, but too many on the ice would turn the other cheek. Ass, grass or cash, nobody rides for free. |

Again Burrows goes in with everyone . I seen him mix with Boogaard once protecting a teammate |

We did have a non fighting environment that stemmed from the Sedins Ehrhoff Edler |

Yup he rushed in and held on for dear life but he protected his linemate |

If the pp is rolling, take the pp goals and the wins. If the pp is in dumper, why take the abuse? |
